Welcome to Styleforum!:) You got some very nice shoes/boots. Great look on soles as well. Your RIO last looks amazing! My favorite on your website is the "Buda Full-Brogue C" in oxblood cordovan (perhaps a future purchase?). Very nice!:)

Thank you very much for the kind words. The Buda FB is one of our finest shoes: Made from Horween Cordovan and equipped with 84 brass nails which prevent damage to the sole. If you'd like to purchase one, simply p.m. me.

I know, it's again a Buda-Style shoe but just look at the leather. Finest Horween Cordovan in navy blue with cream-coloured broguing.

For a change I am posting a picture live from our warehouse. In the foreground: Penny loafer 'WIEN'. In the background: Summer in the outskirts of Berlin.

The difference between expensive and valuable

At Heinrich Dinkelacker the production of sewn-welted men’s shoes lies in the experienced hands of 40 specialized shoemakers who have learnt their trade from scratch. Every one of these experienced craftsmen has particular expertise in 2–3 working steps. Without an assembly line or constant pressure to increase efficiency, each employee creates one pair of premium shoes per day. And each pair undergoes 300 manufacturing steps – from the cutting down to the finish.

Inside our manufacture | Part I

The Last – The Core of a Good Shoe

    Seite33 Kopie.jpg

Whether a shoe fits or not largely depends on the last it has been pulled over. Th e last is an integral part of the shoe, which does not actually become part of the fi nished product, but is taken out shortly before its completion. Lasts have a long tradition: to ensure comfort the Romans diff erentiated between the right and left foot when making shoes and used diff erent lasts for one pair.

But with the demise of the Roman Empire, knowledge about these diff erences was forgotten so 17th-century shoemakers used one symmetrical last for both feet.

Wearing these symmetrical shoes before they had taken on the form of the feet was extremely uncomfortable. Th is is why noble aristocrats had their servants break in their shoes before putting them on themselves. It took another 300 years until a difference was made between right and left in shoe production.

In order to offer every foot the perfect stability and comfort, irrespective of different arch, instep and heel measurements and shapes, a variety of lasts is required. Unless, of course, the wearer wishes to treat their feet to tailor-made shoes formed on lasts that have been specially made according to their measurements by the master craftsmen from Dinkelacker.

Dinkelacker has had approximately 15 different last forms to date. From the classic full-brogue “Rio” last which has been around for more than 60 years, down to the modern “Luzern” last, which meets the needs of today’s narrower styles. Find here more details about Dinkelacker´s seven most typical last shapes.

When we say Craftsmanship, that´s exactly what we mean

    Seite38_2.jpg

Once the upper leather has been carefully selected and handcut, the individual shaft parts are sewn together. For classic brogues, the Lyra, the typical perforated pattern on the wingtip toecaps, is punched into the leather as an additional step. This is followed by the folding of the visible shaft edges, in which the rims are affixed to the inside. After the leather is steamed, the shaft is hand-lasted and pulled tight in the following days. Unlike the 45 minutes in industrial production, where everything has to happen much more quickly, at Heinrich Dinkelacker the shaft is first removed from the last after 15 days. This time-consuming procedure helps the shoe to retain its perfect shape for a long time.

    Janosh K Full Brogue AG

    DSC_8933.jpg
btw ... AG means Art Grain
This is a muted, brushed type of calfskin with scotchgrain embossing. A special finish lends this highly decorative leather a vintage look. This effect is achieved by spritzing paint onto the leather, then buffing it in with a brush.

And don´t forget: The Janosh K is an extra-wide last that makes it possible for men with extra-wide feet to wear classic, elegant Dinkelacker shoes.

    A few questions for @Veit Lehmann and/or @Heinrich Dinkelacker:

    1) The prices on the website say they include the VAT. As an American customer, is the VAT deducted at checkout?
    2) I may have just missed it, or perhaps it's out of stock, but does Heinrich Dinkelacker make a longwing design?
    3) I'm a 10D US in most everything, but I have a low instep and fairly low volume feet in general. What size would you recommend on the Buda last? Or is the Buda last not likely to work for my feet?

    Thanks,
    Steve

A brannock 10D here too! Looking at the wien loafer. Do we go true to size? It’s UK sizing on the website right?

Any options for custom colors other than those on the website?

    Hi Steve,

    thanks for your questions.

    1. The 'Incl. VAT' might be misleading. The prices are the net prices for non-european countries. You do not pay German VAT. We will communicate this more comprehensible in the future.
    2. We have one longwing model. It's our Janosh 9604 0536.
    http://www.heinrich-dinkelacker.com/janosh-k-full-brogue-bc-4.html
    3. With feet like yours I would recommend you the ROM last or LUZERN and MILANO. These are fit for feet with a lower instep and a low volume.
The BUDA however is perfect for feet with a high instep. We label our shoes with UK sizes, so be sure to choose a UK 9.

I hope that this was helpful,

    Veit

Thanks for the question! Yes, our shoes are true to size but I would recommend you to always consider factors like the instep etc. You can find a description of our different lasts and their fitting at the beginning of our thread.
We do not offer any customization in the moment but soon our made-to-measure program will be back. Then you can choose everything, from sole to leather.
