Headphones for on-the-go audiophiles?

I'm a student who walks to and from campus about 20 minutes away. In the past I've bought cheapo Sony headphones that wrap around the area and earbuds, like those sold by Apple. I'm willing to spend a little more for quality headphones that won't lose the sound in one or both ears after only a few uses. Any suggestions?

What's your price range? Back in the day I wore cups around, like a shmuck. I just picked up the Audio Technica ANC3WH earbuds from Amazon. At $70, they're about the same price point as Apple's (now ridiculously overpriced) replacement earbuds, and half the price of what these same earbuds go for at the Apple store. Plus, they're noise canceling, not just noise reducing, which is a nice feature if you're in the library or whatnot. Frequency range is pretty good.

I think he means there won't be any noise escaping and bothering others around him...

I have an older version of these and they are worth every penny. Clear as can be. Only complaint I have is that I wish they had a little more low end umpff. But for ear buds that you don't even know about there:

I have the cheaper Shures...the e3cs or something, wasn't too pleased with the sound quality of them to be honest.... over ear headphones seem to sound better. I have a pair of Sennheiser foldable speakers...PX200s or something, love those.

I have Sennheiser HD280s, which are great sealed cans.

I also have Etyomotic ER6Is, which are not great in-ear noise-canceling earbuds, unless you only listen to classical music.

I have shure e2c's and love them. So much, in fact, that when my first pair broke after 3 years, I bought the exact same pair again. You can get new pairs for $30 or so on eBay...I think it's a pretty stellar deal.

I'm the "I love music" kind of audiophile, not a "Where do the foam cups go?" kind of audiophile, though.

I don't like in-ear headphones. I like Grato for Open-ear headphones (which obviously sound better) and Yuin for earbuds. Both Companies make great products for every reasonable price range (though I'm not sure how much I'd pay for earbuds.)

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I think I may want something that is over the ear as I'll likely use them as headphones for listening to music while working out too, and I don't want to worry about buds falling out. I can spend anywhere up to $100 so long as the headphones will last a long time.

Klipsch Custom 1. I use them at work to drown out the stupid broad I sit next to.
