on eBay, the same brands or similar end of market and items not runway collectables (i.e. exlude uneven cases such as a new Chaps shirt sells for less than a used Kiton shirt)?

http://cgi.ebay.com/RALPH-LAUREN-PUR...item2eb4555a19

I had this exact suit on eBay about 3 months ago in this exact size, it was NWT and absolutely mint. Bidding started at $99 and ended up at $183. That was a NWT suit, and I have a feedback running into the 100's. Just how does a 19 feedback seller sell a used broken suit more than a new one? After reweaving, Total bill => close to $500 in this case, assuming no other bidders jump in.

All I can say is phenomenal - amazing how statistics work out. In my case I had 11 frigid bidders, in this case that seller has one lunatic bidding against himself to jack the price up. Amazing!

I have many times. Ive sold TF ties for 30% more than retail, other Hermes ties for 20% more than retail, a few Hermes PS's more than retail, definitely some Louboutin shoes for wayyy more than retail, and a Chanel bag for about 1500 more than retail. Thats just off the top of my head, Im sure theres way more.

I've seen a $20 gas card go for $22. Plus the 50 cents shipping.

Not my listing, but a friend's. He didn't have that station nearby, so he figured he'd flip the card and lose a few cents off the value.

I've sold alot of stuff for insanely cheap and see the exact same thing (also used) go MUCH higher than what I sold it for. I don't understand that either. All the Oxxford stuff I've sold always goes for cheaper than any similiar Oxxfords selling. Doesn't make sense!

Wait, you sold a NWT RLPL suit for $183? I'm guessing you could have sold it on here for MUCH more. Frankly, the only way I can imagine that suit going for that price is if you didn't describe it properly...

It is understandable on some products that are either in demand or collectable, or you pay a premium on something that is no longer made. If you snooze on a certain Hermes tie, and its out of production but you really have to have it you might be inclined to over bid in auction.

Maybe the fit or description was bad?
Did the NEW RLPL have extra long or short sleeves? was it listed as RLPL or "Ralph Lauren Purple Label" ?

I took pictures, included measurements and a proper title so it came in Ralph Lauren Purple Label searches. At the time my guess was that the suit sold at $183 because it was 48L for a big man. At the time I thought this may have been the reason.

Aye it had long sleeves at around 27" so that may have been a deal killer. But there was an inch and a half before buttons, so a tailor could have shortened by up to an inch perhaps. The length of jacket was something like 34.5" so perfect for guys over 6ft 2"

I think it was just bad luck. I had 11 bidders and none had the cojones to go all out last minute. I suppose being here in california and ending the auction at around 11:00pm wiped out all east coast bidders - who would stay up past bedtime to bid on a suit? Live and learn.

I do have a few suits to sell in upcoming weeks, think I will try out B&S. Dont know if any members here take 46L in their suits though.

Did you indicate retail was $2000+ ? It does not matter if it's true or not.

But, that helped to jack up the bids.

1. Burberry Dark Gray/charcoal Plaid cashmere / wool blend that still has its tags. Bought two of them, keeping 1 of them for me, selling the other. Winter weight suit.

2. Dolce and Gabbana Charcoal (nearly black) with lighter brownish grey double banded stripes. New with tags.

3. Hugo Boss charcoal suit, NWT.

4. Burberry gray pinstripe - this one is used though.

5. Dolce and Gabbana used charcoal with blue pinstripe.

6. Tom Ford jet black suit - worn once just to try it on at home has not even been tailored for me yet. The blackest suit I have ever seen.

Most these suits apart from Tom Ford or the Burberry NWT were bought from outlets or airports when I had spare foreign currency. Tom Ford I got from Beverly Hills, the Burberry comes from a store in Texas.

I think I will literally give the used suits away for free. They are still good to near mint condition, but I think it is stupid people pay too much for used stuff. I am thinking of just offering them as free gift with a new suit or perhaps sell for under $100.

LOL - I got it for free as a gift from my brother but I did not know its original retail. I only sold it because it was too baggy. This is a good tip though, I might try this out in future.
