I've been mistaken as a worker at Uniqlo once and one time this woman almost asked me if I could find a pair of shorts in another size for her husband.

Oddly enough I was wearing mostly J. Crew when I was mistaken for a Uniqlo worker and mostly Uniqlo when I was mistaken as a J. Crew worker.

So is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Whenever I go into Macy's or Men's Wearhouse, people approach me and ask where the restroom is.

I learned pretty soon to not go shopping at malls in business clothes.

+1

Being mistaken for a "How may I help you?" sales clerk is hardly a compliment

One time I was sitting on the couch at Barney's women's shoe department while my wife was looking at shoes. I was futzing around with my phone. I had a shopping bag at my feet. It was winter and I was wearing heavy jacket. A woman came up to me and asked for help with shoes.

I was kidding about Men's Wearhouse. I don't go there and rarely to Macy's since I haven't worked there for years (decades?).

However, please allow me to repeat my Mediterranean cruise story from earlier this year in condensed form.

I was strolling through the casino in full tilt navy suit/cashmere tie one evening, searching for my wife who had gone ahead with another member of our party for some girl talk. A not unattractive, fairly well dressed younger woman called to me from behind. Since my ear is trained for that sort of thing, I naturally turned to the sound of her voice. When she learned I was not part of the crew (she thought I was the casino pit boss), she smiled and said, "Oh. Well, you look very nice."

Thanks styleforum!

Not really, however, people like my clothes so much, I am often asked where I purchased them.

Back when I dressed like one; Polo shirt, khakis, shiny black belt, chunky brown slip-on shoes. These days? Not so much.
