1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Oops, someone else got there before me.

Anyway, yeah. Urbandictionary always saves me when I feel removed from my own generation, too.

Cool, thanks. After reading some of the comments I'm reminded how much I like trance, but how much I don't understand the need to hit X to have a good time. I mean call me Trad, but whatever happened to alcohol?

alcohol makes you tired. You rarely see people drinking alcohol at a rave. The drugs are to heighten sensation and make you feel more lively. This is also why you see people rubbing vicks and lotion because with more sensation from the drugs the feeling is multiplied many times. I remember also seeing people with pacifiers and this I found out was because the drugs made them grind their teeth. So yeah at a rave u see drugs + water for hydration.

Yeah, my fiancee is getting her PhD in Clinical Psychology, and after a few neurology classes where they discussed the long-term, sometimes permanent effects of doing X even just *once* (basically it usually results in clinical depression for decades--it seriously fucks with seratonin uptake or something), she's decided that she's glad she stuck to acid (!) when she was in high school. When a neuro class tells you it's better to drop acid than hit X, you know it's bad.

X was legal up through the mid-1980's no? I knew people that'd get it from Texas. RX quality.

When was the first Rave? I used to go to loft-parties in the 80's but the music wasn't the same and the scene was much more junkie-sophisticated then.

I think there is a lot of misinformation about E/X. There were some studies published that said that this stuff would happen (the depression stuff) but apparently they were poorly done. I've never done it, and don't know too much about the subject but apparently "Ectasy Rising" is a pretty good intro to the subject (some ABC or whatever news report that Peter Jennings did).

A friend of mine (ok, several but a particular one I spoke to) has done a lot of coke, and he said that he has "˜no serotonin left'. What is he talking about? Does coke do the same thing as X to your serotonin level?

Not 100% sure, but I believe coke works by blocking the dopamine receptors in the brain. Maybe over time they can get totally desensitized?

That depression thing about E is pretty true. A lot of my friends in high school were ravers, so I had first hand experience. I tried E once, and it wasn't a very potent pill at all, but I still felt it, and the after effects were definitely there. Maybe depressed isn't the right word.. it's more like an unavoidably lethargy that turns into depression because of how unavoidable it is. This is my experience, anyway. Most people where I lived were doing acid, shrooms or nitrous, not much E.

I was unaware that serotonin could be measured. Aren't most (if not all?) the studies that involve the measuring of these chemicals in the brain guess work?

All said, I've known a few people who have been more or less heavy users who seem to have experienced continuing side-effects after stopping. Whether these people were fucked up before and merely self-medicating, I don't know.

yes, you are right, but ecstacy depletes seratonin completely

2-4 weeks are recommended in between ecstacy drops, to give the brain time to build seratonin levels back up to a nominal level

however, i believe extended use of ecstacy (daily or even weekly) over any prolonged period of time will radically alter a person's "nominal" level, which leads to manic depression and severe bipolar disorders

One of the nicest girls in my school became a candy raver, and in between her embodiments of PLUR, went on an inexplicable criminal rampage and ended up leaving the school and community before graduation.

my friends have encountered young ladies that are otherwise very well-educated and socially secure engaging in sexual favors in exchange for a couple of e's. quite sad.

Possibly sadder are the men, usually heterosexual, who give blowjobs in bathrooms for a trip of whatever. I've been tempted to get them some so they won't feast on a filthy appendage for just a night. Logic ends up prevailing over sympathy but still.

And this is exactly why I mentioned in another post why I'm weary of having sex with anyone in the spur of the moment. Seriously, who knows what kind of shit people are carrying with them? I rater have one less sexual experience and not have a painful experience every time I pee for the rest of my life, thank you very much.
