Have I picked the right interview shoes?

Hey everyone. I have an internship interview coming up in a week, and I've already gotten myself a charcoal suit. I was browsing for a pair of black oxford shoes to go with it when I found these:

Now, I understand the whole disagreement between rubber/leather soles. However, I'm a college student and I really don't have more than a hundred dollars to spend on a pair of shoes. Would these be acceptable for an interview, or is there something about them that looks too casual? Also, any recommendations/examples would be welcome.

what is the job? these are pretty good for the price. I would prefer black for a job interview, myself. good luck

They're a little clunky for a suit, and (while I prefer brown myself) your average interviewer is probably looking for black shoes.

For under $100 go to Off Fifth or Last Call and ask the salesman to find you some black interview shoes. If you don't have those stores near you, I'd go for a basic shoe like a Bostonian wing tip. Others here might cringe, but for $79 or so it's a good interview shoe.

Nordstrom Rack is the best place to find shoes under $100. You could get lucky (as I did) and score a Allen Edmonds for under that.

Or try our board member Chris at Bennies shoes if you're an internet kind of buyer. He carries many brands.

They're all right, though I think you can do better. Look around for something that's a little sleeker. They'll look far more professional than these, which are really dress style made on casual-shoe lasts. Try something from Florsheim or Bostonian...you may well be able to find them on sale. They should also be a bit cheaper at zappos.com or shoebuy.com. They're not the best in quality, and you'll probably want to upgrade after a little while, but for the time being they'll do the job for you. Good luck with your job hunt, by the way.

Florsheims are pretty good for the price, no? I think $100 is the price for one of their basic captoes.

If you can't find a steal on some Allen Edmonds, I would think some black captoe Bostonians like these:

Go to TJMaxx or Marshall's. They often have Bostonians and such cheaper.

They're only $85 and I should mention that they can should be able them to you in time. I last-minute ordered a pair of shoes from Chris that I needed for a black-tie event a few weeks ago and had them in about 3-4 days.

I was too lazy to actually find the link, but that's the shoe I was thinking of.

Seems pretty sound advice to me. Those shoes on Amazon are bluchers (derbies if you are English) and are an open construction. Add the brown colour and they become downright casual. With those Florsheims you will really look much more the part and I am sure you are posting here because you are smart enough to know that shoes are the most important part of the whole equation. Clothes maketh not the man - shoes do!

The Bass shoes in black are fine for an interview. Not the best shoes, but they'll get the job done.

The florsheims are better.

I did all three of my job interviews with black Dexter wingtip tassel loafers. Didn't hurt me any. As long as they're black and sufficiently dressy, you'll be fine.

Yep, go the Florsheim route for the sub-$100 price point in a hurry.

Black with perforated cap-toe is your best bet.
