Sirs, As a bald man in my 30s i have to often wear a hat - if alone to deal with the elements/cold etc. Whilst i dont like being bald, i have been dealing with it and accepted it and employed the fully shaved look as soon as it started getting thin - as i dont like comb-overs or other efforts to hide it. Anyway, as i do dress what i hope is a 'classic' manner - i have started wearing hats more often - with my country jaunts the Barbour ensemble lent itself to my hats very well. I have a vast selection of baseball hats - with 'car' motifs, ferrari, Aston etc... plus a few recent Hacketts. I popped into 'Bates' of Jermys Street on friday and am in mind to get a Burligton or a Mayfair or a classic fedora. Any thoughts? Are there any other shop you might recommend? I plan to incorporate the hat with my daily suits for work purpose...! At 34 am i too young to employ the Bertie Wooster look?

Well I'm 38 and regularly wear a fedora for what it's worth... I think providing you get one that fits your face shape you'll be fine. If you want a younger look (providing you're not too broad) try a trilby.

I'm curious what people's views are on young people with these vintage style hats. What messages will it send? I don't have a bespoke arsenal but I am more dressed up than my peers, with the minimum of dress boots and tucked in shirts.

I started a small collection of trilbies recently after years of telling myself hats were unsuitable. I'm in my 20s and think it is never too late to start. The message that's usually sent by the young wearing older hat styles is that it's the latest trend, naturally, usually inspired by indie and rock bands, though accusations of eccentricity are reserved for the ones who take the vintage look further than on their heads

I'd like a classic fedora, having borrowed one for an afternoon with quite the wide brim and found it a fun piece to wear - it's in the WAYWRN thread

Trilbys seem to be very popular amoungst the youth here in the UK, that mix with a faux waistcoat = fashion faux pas

Equally I used to own one and carried the nick name "trilby" for many years, should probably start that up again!

Locke and Co, just round the corner from Tricker's. The shop is a curiosity in itself.
