only get stuck on the knot when my tie's not long enough or the knot's emaciated. i'm 6'2" and not all my ties are extra-longs, so this happens fairly often.

a bigger obstacle is struggling to fix the collar button around my thickish neck. this HAS delayed me.

It would be unfair of me to blame it all on the tie.

I'm somewhere between these two extremes; max I think I've ever spent on the tie adjustments is 4-5 min. It's not the knot itself but the length of the ends that gets me. If I ever become a bigtimer, I'd like to send all of my ties to Tiecrafters to get them recut to a standard length so I don't ever have to retie a tie.

On a related note, I always get a chuckle out of the 5,000, 10,000, 15,000+ post members who, whenever a topic of this nature comes up, try to convince others that their style is natural, nonchalant sprezz.

Your WAYWRN pics are awesome, keep it up. Even if I tease you for being boring and professional.

I take the time to make sure the length is right; I can't stand not having the tie in its keeper, at the least. A dimple I'm not so concerned about; mine turn out awful anyway.

If I look professional and boring, I deserve to be teased.

I will admit that I have had trouble with ties in the past but I have pretty much mastered them, so I do not take much time with them at all. In fact I am to the point where I don't even have to look any more and can usualy get it right on the first try.

I used to have this problem until I started playing "favorites". For most of the ones that I wear on a regular basis, I've a rough idea of how best to get them to tie great knots with favorable lengths etc. Now new ties -- trying one on when you've 5 minutes to go is always an, ummm, interesting experience. And one of the many reasons I prefer sticking to known brands. For the same reason, I am a little hesitant about knit ties. How well a knit tie ties seems to vary rather wildly -- brands or material notwithstanding.

And if it actually is? I dont have 15-20 minutes in the morning to set aside for a rigorous knot tying session.
