I had never even heard of the movie and picked it up at the video store today. It was an amazingly powerful movie. It deals with a young boy growing up in Nazi Germany. He becomes friends with a young Jewish boy in one of the prison camps. I won't spoil the ending but I suggest you see this movie. It is a must see.

This is one of the most moving and well acted movies that I've ever seen. The director, with a stroke of genius, allows the viewer to use his imagination. There is no need to show every detail. The horror of the Nazi atrocities are 10 times more powerful in our mind than what could be possibly represented on screen. A little restraint goes a long way.

I thought it was boring and derivative. The Holocaust is an endless supply of readymade sap and indignation. Just add bodies.
