Does anyone know on the web where you can get Hartmann briefcases for competitive prices? My friend just had his stolen and is looking for a replacement.

Thanks.

Is this a "good" brand? I keep seeing Hartmann briefcases at the Marshalls in the Atlantic Center Mall. I don't recall the prices, but its Marshalls, so it should be heavily discounted. As I recall, they were not all leather, there were some cloth or linen pieces on the outside, a dark leather and lighter cloth combination.

That is a classic and superb briefcase. I would suggest he phone some of the Hartmann factory stores (e.g. there is one at Wrentham Village in Massachusetts); I've seen that model there, though it's still not cheap. They have/had it in the tan/belting leather color, not the black, I think in a 4" size. The factory stores seem to have fairly frequent promotions, so my guess is if he was able to take advantage of one, he'd get it for around 1/2 price. The briefcase would be a factory second, so no lifetime warranty, but I've never really noticed what the flaws are, other than maybe a slight mark on the leather, etc.

Hartmann has price support (official retailers are required to sell at the same price), so nobody will advertize a good discount, but if you go to a small private luggage place, you might be able to talk them down 20-25%.

It is a good brand, but they never really recovered from the recent introduction of Tumi into a market that they once dominated alone.

I ordered my Atlas from LL and was pleased with the service.

Thanks Alan. I'll tell him to go with them.
