Hartford Denim Company rocks!

On a recent trip to the US, I wanted to buy a unique pair of jeans. Did some research and came up with these boys. A short 1 hr trip up the freeway and I was knocking at the door of the HDC.

The initial scene was bloody great - one of the guys still completely rat arsed, in his undies lying on the floor - the other 2 chaps packing up for a trip to Nicaragua. Beer bottles strewn amongst the denim, leather and very cool antique sewing machines.

After convincing them to open for sales (I got there a little early in the morning..) we had a chat about their denim, styles and future direction.

These guys have a real passion about what they do, and their designs are classic, using high quality denims sourced from the US and Japan.

I ended up buying a pair of mid height, very long, what could be called standard fit jeans, made of 16oz Japanese slub raw denim.

They fit great, they use old US pennies as buttons, hand peened copper rivets, plus a lifetime repair guarantee..

End of the day, these jeans are unique - I think there were only 4 pairs made of the style I bought. Very happy, great guys and a great story. Highly recommended.

As a Hartford Country resident, I'll say the buzz has been growing a bit what from the local internet. They're out of my price range at the moment, but if I ever more on from Levi's it will be to them, if only because, hey, support your local denim company. Yikes that earlier post was rife with errors. Hartford County. If Hartford was a country it would have been abandoned or colonized by now. But while it's got a post, and aside from the use of out-of-circulation coinage on the fly, do these in any way look worth the money? I have no eye for that kind of evaluation.

After seeing the construction on these jeans, I wholeheartedly believe this.

To the best of my knowledge, the workshop is part of their apartment which might explain the rat-arsedness early in the morning before the shop is open. As for the trip to Nicaragua, it appears they're going to give away jeans to local farmers and see how they hold up. Which I guess is a neat experiment? I suppose this is just a bit of provincialism on my part, but I'll stick up for Hartford how I can.

At least the jeans are guaranteed a minimum re-sale value of 4 cents though.

Personally I thought being shitfaced just added to the mystery of this startup denim company.

The workmanship is very, very good - 20 hours + into each pair, most of it sober. These guys know what they are doing.

If you're in the area, look them up and pop in for a gas, they're a great bunch of lads, should be back from SA now anyway, no doubt with many a tale of getting spazzoid on the local homebrew.

That's a pair of 12 oz cone mills (I believe) used by a local cycle courier. Riding around all day really hammers the jeans, so (due to the lifetime free repair guarantee) they re-enforced the crotch/rear with 24oz japanese denim.
