Harrolds Sydney/Melbourne

Was just viewing their catalogues and can't believe the prices they're charging! $4500 for loafers etc. Is the quality worth the price there? The prices just seem unbelieveably high for some suits which you can probably get for less as Bespoke in some places! Anyone agree or disagree?

An absolute waste of money. Harrolds is very very very overpriced.

Usually I just go in to find the sizes of brands I can buy online (usually from the US or UK) and I'd still have alot left over in my wallet.

There's the added problem that Harrolds tend to stock things that would appeal to people who would spend $4500 on loafers purely for the sake of doing so.

Unsurprisingly, the Harrolds store at Crown Casino stocks a lot of Stefano Ricci. Think red silk shirts with black collars.

Harrolds is a Greek (owners) idea of how Italians dress. They take the most ostentatious Italian stuff they can find and sell it at 1000 pc markup.
Go in, try on then buy on line. You don't need to spend $7000 on a Kiton suit - they can be had for $1500 on shopthefinest, napolistyleoutlet on ebay etc.
Their shirt prices are ludicrous. Once the value of the internet is widely realised the shop will have a limited lifespan.
Same with American Tailors in Melbourne and Crockett and Jones. Go there and try them on then buy from Plal.

I personally know of 4 x 100 ASX-listed CEO's who shop there also. Dated a very hot chick there years ago (heard some good stories about people, sorry "clients" who came in) - sadly, we never did tango among Harrolds Kiton Super 180 suit fabrics though (her fantasy or mine I can't remember). Only ever bought some Tateossian (or were they Duchamp?) cufflinks from there many, many years ago.

When I was in Melbourne I popped into their store on Collins ST and the guys up on the second floor were a pack of @ssholes. They looked down upon me as if what was I doing in their store. Sure I walked in wearing an old pair of Jeans and a backpack however thats not the point. If only they knew the limit on my credit card. The chick at the Zegna store on the other hand was polite, non judgemental and we managed to get into a nice conversation and of course she got a sale be it small. : )

Harrods in Melbourne----> Never again.

I've always found the Harrolds Collins St upstairs guys to be polite and very helpful. And happy to let me try stuff on at leisure and then leave. Henry Buck's on the other hand ... talk about trying the pressure sale thing ...

all in all retail shopping in Melbourne is not a particularly great experience for the discerning gentleman

what I will say for both stores though is that the stylists they employ for their window displays are adept at pulling together a pretty good look

This is the concensus in the trade FYI - they are Greeks and their products reflect their interpretation of Italian style.
I would have thought a casual look around the store would convince you the stock is just a little more garish than most classic men's stores in Italy. This is not what you would typically find in Italy.
