What do you know about the Harris brand shoes at Barney's. New models with elongated toe look awesum. Salesman said the shoes used to be sold under the Barney's brand name. For a few years now being marketed under the Italian manufacturer's name. I bought a pair in brown pebble grain that I love. Never had so many positive comments from others about a pair of shoes. (Well, except for my Helmut Lang beak toe patent leather shoes in white, but THATS a whole 'nother story!) Just wondering what others think and what you know about Harris shoes.
Sorry if this is discussed elsewhere, but I could not find other postings.

I believe in one of the limited posts on Harris shoes from Barney's the poster (it may have been A. Harris actually, IIRC), that it was a well made shoe. I saw ones that I loved when visiting Barney's in NY (the Barney's in Beverly Hills has a pathetic shoe section), but of course, they didn't have my size. They looked well made (altough I couldn't tell you what type of construction they were) and with its Italian styling, I would have paid the $450 or so price tag.

I have one pair. They are fantastic - very well made. They have a chiseled, elongated elegant shape. If I was planning on paying the $550 retail price I probably would have gone with a more classic shoe - maybe a C&J Handgrade - but I got these for a pretty decent sale price so I went with it. They are the burgundy loafers in the pic:

I have two pairs, and they are unquestionably well-constructed. That being siad, they are not as sleek as some of my other shoes. I've seen them retail for $450-650, and it's my personal opinion that the price is reasonable given the quality.

I love my two pairs. Very comfortable, hard wearing and stylish. I got them at a special price, thanks to a tip by Versace Man on this forum a couple of years ago.

These are the ones with the big H on the sole, right? They are at Marshall's here all the time around $100.

I like some of them a lot, but others have styling that is way over the top. I'm also fairly certain that they use corrected grain on about half the shoes Barney's carries. They had quite a few pairs at the last warehouse sale.

Anyone know who's making Barney's house name shoes now? Curious. Thanks.

Yes I would really like to know that too.
I have heard so many comments about corrected grain. Some made after looking at a thumbnail of the shoe in question.
Just wondering how one can tell corrected grain?

As for Barney's shoes., I have two pares. Durable shoe on a nicelast. Last that i have is on the narrow side. YMMW as far as fit is concern. I had one pare that I had to return just becasue they rubbed my heel terribly.
Love their cheaseled toe, modern yet sofisticated.

The corrected grain used on expensive shoes vs. cheap Florsheim (et al) corrected grain is quite different, but you should still be able to note a slight plastic-like feel, and unnatural smoothness that lacks the subtle texture of smooth polished high-grade calfskin.

Hey Drizz, if you're from Orange County, exactly which Marshall's are you referring to? I'll have to stop by there some time. Most Marshall's I know of don't have jack.
