Handwashing wool pants in cold water?

It's probably fine to dry clean your suit jacket only 1-2 times a year but it's just impossible not to wash your pants even after just a few wears when you're in very hot humid weather where you sweat a lot especially in the summer when all the nasty stuff gets onto your pants directly from your skin.

The frequency of washing your suit pants should really be the same as that of other pants whether jeans, cutton trousers, shorts. You just have to wash them after a few wears.

Why do people say they don't wash their suit pants as often as other pants for the reason that suit pants are made of materials not as much suitable for frequent cleaning when the need to wash them is the same as that of pants of other materials?

Is it okay to handwash suit pants (made of 100% wool) in cold water only without detergent?

Wool really does not need that kind of frequent washing. Its fibers and natural oils don't pick up scents from you. That's why workout clothing from companies like SmartWool and Icebreaker are so good, hang them and reuse them, wash them from time to time, but they don't smell like cotton or poly blends, even after days (or theoretically weeks) of use. Do you wash your sweaters like that too? Don't the arms touch your skin? There is no way in the world you should be washing your wool pants at the same rate you wash your jeans.

Thanks for the reply. That makes a lot of sense to me.

But the reason I'm asking is because pants are in direct contact with your legs and they do pick up nasty stuff when you go to the toilet or sweat a lot in summer so they may require more frequent cleaning as opposed to jackets or sweaters which don't come in contact directly with your skin.
