Wow, this thread is kinda dead! I made a narrow belt today. The first one goes to my daughter for Christmas. [IMG] So many presents to make... [IMG]

^thanks, guys! I've been dyeing it darker lately, and even adding a little brown to it. I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

I read through this thread a while back and remember seeing a few requests for leather suppliers. If you're in Canada, I really recommend Zelikovitz(.com). I'm still new to all this and had a lot of questions. I got to talk to someone on the phone right away and they were really helpful.
I haven't looked much at the their tool section, but they seem to carry most Tandy stuff as well (which considerably lower shipping than Tandy), so it might be a good alternative if, like me, you don't live near a Tandy retail location.

great stuff you have here zissou. i've been making leather things for myself for a short while now and know the fun you get out of it. as mentioned that oxblood is amazing. i still haven't ventured into dying colors just yet. good job!

Zissou would you be willing to share how you punch your holes? They look too tidy to be from an awl.

I use this punch. The holes close up pretty well with some use, and it accomodates the heavy waxed linen thread that I like to use. Thanks, Jvlivs!

Thanks Zissou, very cool. I've ordered the Tandy punch with diamond punch tips; but I'll have to look into that one. Like the replaceable head.

Each of the little punches is replaceable, but I've used mine forever and haven't had an issue. I know most guys like to use a sharp awl, but this us what I prefer...

I like that you can (I imagine) take the outside punches out to use two prongs for going around corners. I was originally going to buy an extra diamond punch and file off two prongs. Might be an easier method.

Hope I'm not the only one interested in this thread even though I'm the only one revising it. There must be more people into leathercraft here wanting to share some knowledge. I'm trying to make a wallet reign but I'm kind of lost on how to secure the ends on a thin piece of leather. Does anyone have any tips on how to tie the end (after the braid) of a leather reign like this one? [IMG] Or how to secure a wrapped thread like on this one? [IMG]
