Hey, so I'm trying to change up my hairstyle a bit, and this is basically the look I'm going for

But I'm a little unsure on how to achieve this.

I'm not really sure what to tell the hairstylist when I get it cut, other than showing him/her that picture. And what should I use to style my hair like this? Gel? Wax? I've been using a small amount of gel to style it (pics below) and have tried using wax called pomade (also below), but neither seem to get the job done.

My current hair (styled with gel):

Styled with pomade:

As you can see, the pomade left my hair looking (and feeling) very greasy, and didn't really hold my hair in place.

I'm also open to suggestions if you know of any similar styles you think would look good on me.

This is my main issue with my current style. I think it looks fine when looking at it from the left, or even straight on:
But looking at it from the right, it looks terrible:

It looks fine, you've got some sort of dysmorphia about it. Try some Jonathan Antin Dirt to get rid of some of the flyaway dryness and give you some control that won't be greasy. Don't tell the hairstylist how you want your hair cut; copy your desired picture of Brad Pitt onto your portable communications devices and show them exactly. Never leave this to verbal descriptions, it won't turn out the way you envisioned it if you do. Look at this guy's channel, he's got dozens of hair styling and gel/product application tutorials. In this case, if you find a cut or a look that you like either show your stylist the video or make screen captures using Fscapture and show him/her the stills. http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=775

Well, try to stay away from curling irons and straighteners and blowdryers cus the heat really damages your hair. And do not use hair straighteners a lot unless you have cream to go with it. Hair straighteners are prone to cause damaged and fried hair if used frequently or improperly.
