    Hi all,

I'm one of those guys who's never put much time into my hair. I'm trying to change that. I bought some generic hair wax and had a fair sized glob spread out over both hands. I wiped it into my hair and tried to make it stand up. And it looked decent for maybe 30 seconds. But very slowly, the spikes would fall into each other, like a tent slowly collapsing.

It would sure be nice to have my hair stay up how I have it in its first few gravity defying moments. Obviously people are doing it because I see images all the time of hair standing up tall and proud. And my hair is not terribly long either, being 6/8 of an inch on top, 3/8 on the sides.

Can anyone offer some tips on how to get better results?

    Thanks

Wet your hair, I prefer to quickly towel dry after a shower so its still slightly damp, then with dry hands work it into your hair, after that use a blow dryer, what your looking to do is dry the hair before it falls, if you just wait til it sets itself it will fall.

this for sure. Sometimes if I have been out of the shower too long I will go wet my hair then towel dry it then apply hair wax or I used to use...... dreaded bamboo sculpting clay (shudder)

You want to use heat to get your hair to stand up first, so wet your head, towel dry, then use a blow dryer and brush to add lift to your hair. After that, then apply product. Try to apply the product to your roots first, if you picture your hair like a blade of grass, if you only apply the product to the top half, that'll weigh it down and it will fall.

BTW I recommend watching youtube tutorials for the hairstyle you are trying to achieve, that'll show you how all this is done.

My hair is very fine and relatively long (reaches the bottom of my nose if I pull it straight down/forward), and I prefer to do it the first way, where the product is added to wet hair and then blow dried. Occasionally, I'll need to add a small amount more product after it's dry, but generally I can just use my hands or a brush to get it in place and then hair spray it.
