Hair Trim Advice

Needing some opinions on trimming one's own hair.

I have a "classic" barbered side part style, around a #5 length on the sides and back and maybe 2 1/2 inch on top. My barber also does a neck fade around the nape of the neck.

Currently getting a cut every 4 weeks but I find that the sides and back start getting bushy after 2 weeks or so.

My question is, I was planning on getting a pair of clippers with a #5 guard and just trimming the sides and back to keep things manageable in between cuts... Should I even bother with the neck fade?

I'm not so concerned with achieving a "freshly cut" look so much as just keeping it neat, but I don't want it to look weird either.

I have straight Asian hair if that matters.

Anyone? I know I'm not the only one interested in trimming their own hair.

Probably not the answer you are looking for, old sport, but visit your barber more frequently and ask him/her to "clean it up".

And at the risk of sounding snobbish... The visual of myself standing in front of my bathroom mirror trimming the back of my neck is more than enough to dissuage me from the undertaking.
Give yourself the simple pleasure of visiting your barber more often.

Salut !

I would visit the barber every 10 days if I could afford it, sadly I really can't...
