H&H shirt collars

Just a quick question for the masses... I just received my first H&H shirt order today - 3 for ~$200 - a very nice deal. They fit well except for the fact that the collars are consistently 16.5" instead of 17" in measure. Is this normal? This puts them on the uncomfortably tight side so it's a problem that I may not want to live with. I'm rather disappointed with the whole situation because the cloth and construction are great.

That's a little unusual, as I ordered some 16.5" shirts from H&H last year, and the collars are actually a little large! I was thinking of sizing down with my next order, although I will wait until I've laundered them a few times to see if the sizing changes.

So, in my experience, the collars tend to be a little large rather than a little small. I'm only a sample of one person, though, so hopefully someone else will chime in to help expand the survey group.

Yeah, you probably don't want to live with that as they will likely shrink even further after washing (unless they are preshrunk).

You literally may not be able to live with them then.

Death by herringbone, not a very pleasant thought...

Yeah, but unless the OP washes his shirts whilst wearing them, it shouldn't be that much of a problem!

I have found the same problem with H&H, and also Turnbulls. Both have stiff collars that run slightly small. I agree it's disappointing because the shirts are great and, in all other aspects, actually run large (e.g. the sleeves.). The thing is, they won't know unless we tell them!

Based upon what I consider to be a defect do you think H&H will take the shirts back? As this is my first order I have no idea what their customer service is like. Oh, and I'll add Tyrwhitt to the list of British shirtmakers with small collars. Even before laundering I need a 17.5

to fit properly.
