just got these in and they are beautiful

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...5758&rd=1&rd=1

however - it appears these were a floor or display model - there are scratches on the heel indicating minimal wear (I am sure I will cause more walking outside the first 5 minutes from the parking deck). Is it worth it to complain to GVH Customer Assistance about these or let it go?

The folks at GVH are very nice. If it really bothers you, go ahead and bring it up with them. But keep in mind that you got a very good deal.

Yep. Keep in mind that GVH would be willing to do a return but then you run the risk that they no longer have your size. For $160, if you like the shoes, keep 'em as those scuffs would come out with polish anyway.

the statement "I am sure I will cause more walking outside the first 5 minutes from the parking deck" indicates to me that even you know you should let it go.... especially in conjunction with the $160 price.

I do - the scuffs are on the soles of the shoes, not the leather. Yes, I know I will cause more damage when I wear them - I am just a tad miffed they say New in the Box. That's all./

the "new in box" can be meant a range of things within reason, from absolutely brand spanking new, or through overstock or display items with minor shop wear.

what is not within reason and are not truth are items worn and returned by customer and the soles refurbished.
or just plain used shoes. as many ebay sellers peculiarly have a habit of labeling their shoes as brand new.

I wonder if these are the shoes that jose wore for 90 minutes on carpet before returning.

Shoe stores and dept stores do not stock a whole size run of shoes in each style just for customers to try on. It is likely that the shoes you buy at full retail will have been tried on a few times in the store. Therefore a few creases on the vamp and a few scratches on the sole do not disqualify a shoe as being new.

Within the last week or so, I got great deals on a pair of Tellmans ($152) and a pair of Camdens ($305) from GVH. The right Tellman shoe has numerous scuffs, but they should buff right out.

The problem is the Camdens. The buckle on the left shoe seems to be defective. With each step I take, the pressure of my foot against the upper causes the square buckle to slide slightly out of position. Within a dozen steps or less, the buckle has moved into a diagonal position relative to the metal prong that holds it closed. This allows the prong to slip through the hole; thus the buckle pops open, leaving my shoe undone. This makes it impossible to walk in the shoes for any decent distance.

Hell of it is, I don't want my money back; I want the shoes. For the most part, save the buckle, they look and feel great. (They slip some in the heel, so if GVH could exchange my pair for a pair that's a half-size smaller, it would be nice, but if worse comes to worst, I can probably insert some padding to make my current size serve well.)

Assuming the worst (that GVH has no more Camdens in stock), do any of you know how I might fix the buckle? Perhaps a cobbler could do it, I don't know.

I've just e-mailed GVH about it; we'll see what they say.

It is a great shoe and $160 is a steal. Would you want a fully new pair for $250 or so? If so send these back and buy the next pair they sell.
