Guys I need a suit (suits)

Ive never worn a suit in my life. Never had a need to. I wouldnt say I lack style, but I definitely need help. I start law school this fall, and have several functions and at least one wedding this summer that Ill need a suit for. I live in the upper south and go to a big state school. I figure that I need a black suit, and a blue suit, with at least one with pinstripes. I have, however, been noticing that I really like a medium grey colored suit, just something about it that I like. Ive saw recommendations of BB. Any other brands good for a stylish, quality first suit? I want something youthful, but conservative. What are the essentials that I need? Any other advice? Thanks in advance!

It's so hard to ignore when we've had 3-4 "HELP NEEDS SUITS" threads today alone. I was just getting fed up. Now I know why holymadness contains so much hatred.

To the OP. I was one of these people that asked what to buy and what not to buy. whiteslashasian is yanking your chain. DO NOT GO TO THE MENS WAREHOUSE. Other than I can't help you much. Good luck in your search.

BTW I like black too, but for school I wouldn't go for it. IMO I would buy:
1. Charcoal Suit
2. Dark Navy Blue Suit
3. Cotton/Seersucker Suit
4. Black Suit

But thats just me...

I'd get

Charcoal Suit
Dark Navy Suit
Medium Grey or Grey glen plaid
Navy with subtle pinstripes or Charcoal with chalk stripes

If you are only going to get 2 suits -- stick to the basics -- you don't need any pinstripes in the arsenal yet-- Stick with a navy and a Grey glen plaid. You will be able to use both of those in a number of different outfits. Pinstripes are much less versatile.

I'd start with a medium/medium-dark grey - most versatile color you can get (coordinates with far more colors than anything else). Next I'd get navy blue (but not midnight blue, which reads as black), then possibly a charcoal. If you want to add pattern, I'd say that either a glen plaid or a chalk stripe would be your best choices. I'd save pinstripes until you've built this type of foundation, but IMO absolutely start with mid-grey.

In case you get two suits, get a grey one and a navy blue one. Together with white and blue shirts, black and brown oxfords and several ties you will be able to look nice.
