Guy was telling me Lauren by Ralph Lauren suits are just like PoloRL suits.

He said they're the same. I was wondering why he would tell me this if I was looking to buy a much more expensive suit? Hmm...

Was it a trap?

They are nothing like Polo Ralph Lauren suits at all.

I have 2 Lauren "Green Label" glen plaid suits with wool/cashmere fabric & they are exquisite. I have seen some that are horrible.

He is dead wrong. Lauren suits are mostly made in Canada, are fused, and of relatively poor quality. Polo are made by Corneliani, canvassed, and made in Italy, at least the ones I own.

What qualifies as relatively poor quality?

Relative to Polo. Relative to other suits in that price range, they may be fine, but I've only ever seen these at the Polo outlets, and they just didn't compare to Polo.

They are half canvassed, but are still nice.Especially when they go on deep discount,I make minimal alterations on jackets.
Green label RL suits are terrible,at least the ones I've seen.

I have to agree and disagree. I've seen green label suits that I wouldn't accept free. Then I've seen some that are very very nice. Just want to make sure you guys aren't regurgitating info you've read.

I know what you mean but I think there are variations with almost everything, whereas you seem to make blanket statements. I've see blue label and Purple label suits that I wouldn't buy also.

To the OP. What guy told you this?

I'm not regurgitating things I've read, but then again, my experience was pretty limited to looking at one or two suits at an outlet, so maybe there are better examples out there.

Doc, has there been variations in the blue label & purple labe stuff that you've handled or were they all equally stellar?

I've handled a ton of RL merchandise, and I have to say that I've never seen anything from the department store labels that could compare to Blue, let alone Black or Purple label tailored clothing. Though only half canvassed, the details on Blue label, including the silhouette, fabric, pick stitching, lapel roll, and overall finishing, are vastly superior to any Lauren suit I've ever seen. I've seen some Lauren with decent fabric that looked nice, including interesting paisley linings, but they are really in a different league, and priced accordingly.

Polo's all over the place. The Italian tailored clothing is consistently nice, but the rest of it's a crapshoot, particularly the stuff you see in lower-end department stores. Yet it's all blue label.

I've seen a couple of PL duds, but not many. Some things are better values than others, though. I don't dig the PL ties, and I tend to think the PL shirts are significantly overpriced. I've also seen some reuse of materials across lines, where it appeared the only value added for your extra bucks was a different label.

What's with all the 1-post shills advertising for C&D? I'm was seriously considering getting my next suit from them but I'm really being put off by this underhanded marketing which amounts to nothing more than spam.

And no, Cad & The Dandy are not from Savile Row.
