Have been on the hunt for a substantial denim shirt that'll fade.

Hope Gustin has something in mind for this, but just a thought.

Can you tell us what's going on with the GreyXBlack shipments? I know it said 'shipping Oct 2013' and we still have a few days left but some folks have had theirs for a week or two now.

Our most expensive pair so far is The Grey Silk at $127. 3x1 uses this denim at $650/pair.

cool! thanks for the reply. I didn't have any motivation for asking, except pure curiosity. I own the Postal Blues and like them. Trying to decide what my next purchase will be.

    Hey Gustin Folks,

Can you talk about the differences between the Fourteener and the Okayama Standard? They look about the same (though the unwashed Okayama looks a little lighter) and have about the same slubbiness and fade, as far as I can tell. I've already back the Okayamas and am wonndering if I should hold off until there is something a little more different (can you say Loomstate???)...

So the Heavy Americans...I mentioned briefly earlier in a post that I got these last week and I'm fairly impressed with them. My first pair of American denim and I like them. In a pure sense, I'd still choose my Japanese denim over them, but these are sub$100 versus $300+ on the others. If I was shorter on money, I wouldn't regret getting these. 16.25 oz denim. Fairly stiff, but not too heavy. No slubbiness or hairiness, quite smooth. Selvage detail on back right belt loop and on both sides of the fly (absent on coin pocket though). Hem line is kinda cool - red thread on the inside with one small band of it on the outside (most of the hem is the standard yellow/orange). Fit wise, they're actually really, really similar to my Samurai S710 in the same size. Granted, I've been wearing the Sams for about half a year now and the Gustins are brand new.

I read through the thread and noticed some people asking sizing questions.

I'll base my response on the pair of Japan Regulars I have been wearing for the last three weeks.

I purchased the 32" slim option which fit extremely well.

My 'normal' jeans measure a 34" actual waist and I am a 32"/33" length (I had the jeans hemmed because the factory length was too long. I left an extra inch in the length so I could cuff.)

Initially the Gustin's were tight as expected, and I was warned that they might border on uncomfortable to button. They were on the precipice of being uncomfortable on the initial wear. The hips were the tightest part, buttoning the third button up from the bottom was the worst. It pulled back quite a bit.

After three weeks of wear the jeans have stretched to what I would call perfect. No issues buttoning any of the fly. There is still some resistance when I place my thumbs in the front pockets, and I can get an index finger between the waistband and my side. You can feel an iPhone in the back pocket, and it does not tip over in the pocket. I doubt these will give more unless I physically pull on the waistband. I would not want any more stretch than I already have. Purchasing a size up would have been a mistake.

There is some knee sag, but I am writing that off to the jeans being new and the material not soft enough for the fabric to fall on it's own yet.

I wear them with either a single or double cuff and that helps keep the knee sag to a minimum. Uncuffed is fine though because it doesnt bother me with the extra inch I left on the length.

No fading yet, but much creasing behind the knees and in the front thigh area.

There was some beautiful red stitching that I lost when they were hemmed, but that's my fault for not asking for the same color at the tailor.

I can see replacing my existing jean rotation to include only Gustin. I like them that much (Backing the Fourteener today in fact.)

Anyway - that is my experience and I hope it helps anyone on the fence about sizing.

I also backed the Blue chambray (have been wearing for two weeks) , the blue-blue gingham and the grey ember flannel as the Gustin size medium shirts are a PERFECT fit for me altough offering a slim fitting shirt option would be nice eventually. The standard shirts fit very well though.
