http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....82&rd=1 This is not the familiar Gucci label I know for their jeans range. Is this authentic Gucci or fake please? I have some Gucci jeans from years back with an all black leather patch. Has this changed recently please? Thanks in advance.

l recall seeing (6 months ago) some Gucci jeans with a leather label that looked like your ebay example. They look genuine to me.

Lots of Gucci jeans have the tan tag - especially the "distressed" pieces. This seller has always intrigued me. I'm really nor sure whether he is selling fakes or the genuine article - for example, sometimes the tags seem incorrect - but if they are fakes, he often chooses some odd pieces to fake, and the prices are not "street" prices by any means. By the looks of it, they would be extremely high quality fakes if in fact they are.

geez louise, over $850 for a pair of jeans. Is that a correct retail price?

Gucci jeans? And with the weak dollar? Yup, that sounds about right. Remember that even at Urban Outfitters, jeans start at about $60 and go up steeply (about $200 for Diesels). Premium jean prices are, in general, getting out of hand.

$60 is a far cry from $850, no matter how weak the dollar.

I thought that was $450. $850 seems inflated. The former does not. Of course, bear in mind that Paper Denim, True Religion, Seven, etc... regularly top $150, and that increasingly, it is difficult to see *any* cut under $170, except in the case of Seven, which has kept it's basic jeans at a relatively reasonable $130 (still, yikes.)

Levis 501, 44 bucks, on sale for 30 sometimes. The original, the best.

American 501's are uglier than sin, and in general, poorly made. The Vintage and Premium versions are closer to the "originals, the best", but will cost you.

Are the premiums better quality denim or just better washes?

Both. They are a lighter weight, with a more tightly woven cotton. Also, when you wash them 20 times they fade how jeans should fade. With current Levis 501s, they get these weird blotchy spots that are hideous, and don't look like actual vintage jeans. They look like they cost less than a penny to make.

Hmm, I've seen Levi's Premium for pretty cheap at Saks Off 5th, do you think these are comparable to PDC etc?

Not really the same league.  The denim is markedly not as good, nor are the washes.  At the severe disount, however, well worth the $50. The Levis Red and Vintage lines are comparable, but are also a whole lot more expensive than the "Premium" line.

They're also for the most part shrink to fit which is quite a bit of effort IMO.

    Off 5th has some Levi's Premium for $40 - 40% right now.

As LA Guy said, well worth the deal for under $50. I like Levis Premium. They're no where near as good as PDC, but the washes are pretty simple, and the denim is lightweight and comfortable. For under $50, I think that's a good deal.
