Gucci chelsea boots: I should probably avoid these, right?

re-post from another topic (which is now all about pencils). http://www.dsw.com/shoe/gucci+men%27...ductRef=SEARCH I'd post images, but all it seems to want to let me copy and/or save are thumbnails. They come in four colors: red, orange, burgundy, and purple (which looks kind of like a blueish-grey, from the pic.) Normally, I wouldn't bother. But they're $200, and I could really use a new pair of chelseas. Is Gucci worth it at that price?

The link does not work, but despite SF groupthink, Gucci shoes are nice and you could do worse for your money - as a general statement not knowing what these look like.

Gucci's are just rebanded (snazzed up with fashion lovliness) Sergio Rossi's -- quality, made in Italy. The only thing they hate here is the Gucci logo and styling.

Here's the question you have to answer: would you buy red, yellow, blue or orange boots by another maker? If the red or orange were closer to a cognac or burgundy color I'd say go for it, but they look gaudy in all the wrong ways. If, however, something a little more colorful was your goal, then why not go for it.

well, they do have burgundy on there.

I'd buy a dark blue. As far as those go, I'm kind of wondering if it's just my monitor making the purple look really more like a dark blue than a common purple.

EDIT:
oh, and, no, I wasn't going for color in general. Black or brown was preferred, but I'm guessing the reason these are 75% off is because black and brown sold out.

The only reason I'm not going for RM Williams is because I'm weary on the sizing--if I had to make an exchange, it'd probably be pretty expensive to ship them back to Australia (which is where the website store-front I was going to order them is.)

If, however, someone knows an alternative to these Gucci which is around the same price range and quality, that'd be great also.

OK - the colors are kind of gross. The blue is the only one I would consider, but I cant see these flying off the shelf. You could probably hold out for a discount. Black or brown would be a no brainer.

When I saw these at DSW two weeks ago, I literally (yes, literally) laughed out loud. I thought they looked extremely cheap and tacky and I wondered if the brand name would really be enough to make someone buy them.

Trust me, you'd never give these a second look if they weren't stamped GUCCI.

1. I need a pair of chelsea boots 2. I consider these to be good value at 75% off 3. I like that burgundy color and the purple 4. The burgundy is available in my size 5. I don't know what I'd wear them with, but I can figure that out later? Please explain why I should not buy these right now. Do they really look cheap? I like dress shoes that aren't black or brown, but I don't want to be an idiot.

As I was reading that, I thought you were going to break down my thought process at first. Then I realized that we basically just had the same one

I can't speak for the quality, though, nor obviously why not to get them. I'm going to head into a DSW tomorrow and hope I can find them, mainly just to reassure myself that, no, these are not for me, but mine doesn't seem to have much for men in regards to dress boots.

On another note, there is actually a spray to re-color leather, but I can't imagine that is good for the leather:
