Group Suit Purchase

Some friends and I got together and are interested in doing a group suit purchase out of New York City.

Our goal is to purchase close to 120-150 suits at $500-600 a piece for about 30 or so people. In short, $90k or so worth of suits to be made.

Does anyone know a tailor/tailors who are willing to rise to the occasion?

Thanks in advance.

I think that's pretty funny. Taking the SF bargain mentality to the extreme. I think that's about a year's worth of work for a single tailor and I doubt you'll find a decent tailor willing to do that work at that price. I think you'd also assume a lot of risk in taking delivery of a bunch of suits that may or may not fit and were rushed through the construction process. There's a reason you don't order 10 suits upfront from a tailor let alone 150.

Sounds like a good idea, but dah328 is right. That is a lot of suits for even two tailors. Maybe you should try to find a handful of tailors and offer a timeline that is expanded over many months, if not a year.

The whole aura and experience of the tailored/ing experience is one of intimacy and personalization. This plan is 180 degrees from that. You want American style mass production of European style artisanship. Don't see it happening, at least not true tailoring.

I think its 4-5 suits per person. I do believe the goal would be each person wanting two-three fittings for one suit. And if that works out, a commitment to purchase the additional suits.

I assume most tailoring shops don't have one person doing the work, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Unfortunately, $600 is less than Greenfield charges his retailer customers for his higher end factory made to measure suits, without cloth or alterations. Good cloth runs another $400 per suit and alterations a further $200.

I'm sure you can buy suits for that but they are likely to be ready to wear stock specials.

I think that idea is absurd!!! I think any real tailor would tell you that at $500-$600 dollars per suit is only cutting you a deal and not just costing them work. You have fabric and labor to pay and the tailors time which equates to more than $600 in the cost of the garment, not to mention all of the fittings . The sale may be 90k but if it take me 90K to produce the tailor has not gained anything not to mention that it puts a strain on his regular clientele. That is loyal and probably pays FULL PRICE for the SERVICE rendered.
