Okay, you asked for updated pictures, here they are.
The biggest mistake I made was trying to go too dark around the creases in the shoe. The result is some gunky buildup in the creases that is slowly going away with repeated polishing. Nothing you can really notice unless you are up close and personal with the shoe.

I understand that you are posting the reslts of an nongoing experiment - and I hope you will keep us up to date with long term results.
I do wonder what you believe woud have happened if you had only used the leather conditioner and black meltonian cream. The real purpose is to change the dye in the leather to a darker shade, with some antiquing. My hope would be that the conditioner would carry the black colors past the top stain and imbed it so that it was more permanent.

I think that some of the dye definitely is embedded more permanantly in the leather -- but not all of it. The antiquing in particular sits on top, and can be removed by careless over-polishing. But I don't think this is really different from other antiqued shoes I have owned.
