The Bull and Bear. A great place.

I'm interested in what other people recommend as well. Dive bars to hotel bars, I'll drink at 'em all.

Ah, sublime. Whenever I'm lucky enough to visit the City, I force our friends to head over for drinks and the jazz. Great mixologist, fantastic ambiance.... The view at the Mandarin Oriental (not from the bar, but from the area right outside of it) is spectacular, but it's an expense account kind of place. And you may be the best dressed (or most appropriately dressed, there were probably some very expensive jeans and sneakers on the younger crowd) fellow there. Not that that's a bad thing..... My personal favorite. When properly attired.

Others I'd recommend for different reasons, time of the week/day are:

Le Bateau Ivre (wine bar) after work/early evening51st & 6th
Balthazar - lazy weekend day, raw bar as well Spring/Broad
Corner Bistro - burger & beer and the damn best jukebox in the world.

If only they hadn't closed the Village Idiot. It's name says it all.

    Peninsula Hotel bar.
Quiet and great complimentary olives, nuts and aged Parmesan cheese with drinks.

This thread needs to be revived.

    Post your secret gems gents.

P.S. Don't go to Bull & Bear. Mexican waiters lazily serving drinks without even bothering to fix their eyes on the client, let alone ask which gin or bourbon you prefer in your cocktail. Place is packed with tourists , if you are really "lucky" FOX will be filming some noisy interview in there(it is networks preferred place to film)...

I like the bar at the Tribeca Grand, since it is close to the Nancy Whiskey which is my real favorite bar in NYC.

I also fully support the Bull and Bear.

There's a good burger place in Le Meridien , if that counts for anything.

If you are into slutty women and cocaine, try the Thompson Hotel pool party on Sundays during the summer.
