So last week on a nice long LAX-LHR run, had time to watch many of the plane's movie offerings one of which was an old favorite, The Untouchables. If you see the black tie dinner scene with all the mobsters you can see many very appropriate and tasteful variations of traditional black tie. And it wasn't just people not knowing better: Armand did the wardrobing and there's a scene at the opera with everyone in white tie where tradition is followed very strictly. Best film example I have seen where you get an idea of how to have just a bit of fun with a formal ensemble.
