What are your favorite pop music covers?

I'm pretty old school and would probably only recognize maybe 100 pop songs recorded in the last decade, but I have to admit I really love that remake of 'Big Yellow Taxi' I hear from time to time. I'd have laughed at the thought of one of today's pop artists covering Joni successfully, but damned if that isn't a catchy bit of music! I'm so clueless, I couldn't even tell you the artist's name -- I hardly ever listen to the radio, so I've mostly heard it while shopping (...or maybe bleeding through the headphones of some idiot teenager's amped-up iPod?).

Anyway, what are your favorite covers?

I love Muse's cover of Nina Simone's Feeling Good.

Alas, when they came to Melbourne on their Absolution tour, they didn't play it.

Nomination for worst cover: Joss Stone's version of The White Stripes Fell in Love with a Girl.

I have to agree with chrysalid re: Jimi's version of Watchtower. A fantastic work of a genius. Made it his own and totally different interpretation. Yes, original by Dylan. A great version by him too. And, I think he said he liked Jimi's version a lot.

The Jam covering "slow down" (Larry Williams)

The Go Getters covering "Rocket" (joe bennett & sparkletones)

Three Bad Jacks covering "brand new cadillac" (vince taylor & playboys)

Sahara Hotnights covering "Teenage Kicks" (undertones)

covers I'd sooner never hear again:

anyone doing Folsom Prison Blues
Wilson Pickett "midnight hour"

shoreman: Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to check that out. And, the Bobby Fuler Four did I fought the law in the 60s. Burt Bacharach wrote always something there to remind me. And, I think Dionne Warwick did it in the 60s. Before Naked Eyes.

Margaret: I know you're joking, but I didn't mean to rebuke. Only clarify/inform. After all, he did say he forgot.
