Oh! Can't leave out William Shatner's cover of "Common People."

He does a killer cover of Rocket Man, but you have to see the video to get the full effect.

I think it's a great album but Nick Cave is one of those love or hate kind of singers. The cover versions are quite stylized; rather dark and brooding.

How about Metallica's cover of Bob Seger's "Turn the Page"...

great song and a great video with Ginger Lynn.

I also have to add the cover of George Michael's "Faith" by Limp Bizkit...

Geez - I sound like a metal head!

A few that come to mind, in no order.

    Mary J. Blige's cover of U2's "One"

Everything But the Girl's cover of Cindy Lauper's "Time After Time"

Natalie Merchant's cover of Bowie's "Space Oddity"

Natalie Merchant's cover of the Beatles' "Nowhere Man"

Stevie Ray Vaughan's instrumental cover of Hendrix's "Little Wing" and "Manic Depression"

Sublime's take on Marley's "No Woman No Cry"

The Derek and the Dominoes (Clapton/Allman) cover of Hendrix's "Little Wing"

The Indigo Girls' cover of the Violent Femme's "Blister in the Sun"

Fiona Apple's cover of Hendrix's "Angel"

Almost the whole "I Am Sam" soundtrack, but especially Sarah McLachlan's "Blackbird," Ben Harper's "Strawberry Fields Forever," Eddie Vedder's "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away," and Rufus Wainwright's "Across the Universe."

Guster's ska cover of S&G's "Mrs. Robinson"

Pearl Jam's cover of Yusuf Islam's "Trouble"

Dave Matthews Band live cover of the GD's "Eyes of the World"

DMB's various live covers of Dylan's "Watchtower"

Moby's cover of Joy Division's "New Dawn Fades," though I guess that's more of a remix than a cover.

I left out my favorite cover above: Pearl Jam's cover of the 1950s standard "Last Kiss" on the Kosovo relief benefit CD.
