Hi all, first time poster here and somewhat new to gyw shoes. I had a fit question I hoped to get someone’s thoughts on. Based on the pics below, do you think it’s worth trying a size up in the leo last?
That’s about as tightly as I can lace them comfortably but looking at other pics it seems like people have less of a gap. Overall they’re pretty comfortable though my smallest toe is perhaps a little cramped and I feel like my foot is coming out over the welt a little.

These are an 8E so not sure if I should try 8.5E or 8EEE, or stick with these (I’ve had them for about six weeks so they’re still newish).
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions you might have!

Are they painful to wear? Will you be wearing thicker socks? My 8D's are like that on me. I tried an 8.5D and I have to lace it tight as it'll go without thick socks, although they still seem to fit well and there's no heel slip for me with the larger size.

Not painful exactly, but last couple of times I've worn them I've noticed the base of my pinky toe (like the ball of my foot at the fifth toe) bothering me a bit, which is when I noticed it maybe on top of the welt a little bit. This is with thin socks - thicker socks and they are definitely snugger than I like. I'll guess I'll try sizing up on my next purchase. I don't mind purchasing a couple to try different sizes, I just don't want to be purchasing three or four. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with the 8.5D - if no heel slip then that seems like a win.

You could also consider moving to an 8 in the E width. Discussing sizing with the folks at GS is your best bet.

Those are the E width, but yes the folks at GS are super gracious in offering advice and have been very helpful. I just don’t want to overdo it and be emailing them all the time!

Of course if I had read the text at the bottom of your post, I would have seen that you have an 8E  . In that case, from my experience with the Leo, trying the 8.5E makes sense. The EEE is really wide. My 7.5EEE pair fits considerably larger than my 8.5E.

Lol after reading the interview with Wyatt on Stitchdown, I doubt a few e-mails will turn you into "one of those guys."

Haha no worries. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the EEEs - I think I will try the 8.5 E on my next pair. If only there were some more burgundy kudus back in stock…
I haven’t read the interview but I will have to take a look.

Storm kudu two days in a row, just because. Attempting to capture their true color, I turned off the lights by the window for a photo.

Edit: Reupload to Imgur. I didn't realize how badly SF compresses photos until I noticed the color was off and checked the file details.

Those look killer. Bet they'll pair great with denim too!

Usually don't wear my Levi's to work but I'll try and post when I do.
Above is a rare example of black (hiking) pants I wore since we were moving furniture around. I swapped out from a heftier boot to break them in for a bit.

The others offered some good recommendations.

I wanted mine dialed in and was tired of wasting time since Wyatt and Co have been pumping out some amazing stuff on short notice. So, I ended up getting several sizes (think four) on the Leo last at one time. I’m glad that I did that because it made it easy to compare. With all the recommendations of sizing down, I was surprised that the Leo best fit was true-to-size for me. I brannock 11.5 E/EE. I tried 10.5 EEE, 11 E, 11 EEE, and finally the 11.5 E. I found the Leo is perfect at 11.5 E. After that, only two pairs were needed to get the right size on the Alexander last, which was also 11.5 E. Returns are easy and now that I’m dialed in on two of their primary lasts, my subsequent purchases have been very easy and I know I’ll have a good fit.

Note: I found the volume difference between E and EEE to be pretty significant. It wasn’t just the width.

Good luck!
