Another look at some of the details on these lovely Crimson CXL Bluchers before I send them back. The workmanship is stellar, honestly.

I am especially digging how consistent and even the welt is on this pair. My first pair of Grant Stones that I bought ~7 years ago had some mismatched welting which kinda bugged me (I can’t help it, I’m a leatherworkers and I notice these things). But these bad boys? They’re just perfect.

I’m so sad that I need to exchange them but I’m eager to get my new, slightly smaller pair. ☺️

Your next pair is likely going to look almost the same. It's hard getting used to the consistency and high quality of Grant Stone.

@Carson I would stick with 9 D. I wear the Barrie last and Leo in the same size.

Are they the same size as your other pairs? This is interesting -- why would the instep be too snug here?
From my own experience I'm guessing it's a combination of the last plus the material.

So far I've found the shoes and loafers way lower volume than the boots. And at least going forward there's no way I'd ever get calfskin, Minerva or grain ever again. The grain killed my own instep.

Hi man, good to see you.

Interesting comments that you have. I am breaking in my dune PTB, and the biggest issue I've had is that my left foot is having heel slip. I found the instep to be very generous and I'm about 1/4 inch away from closure. I don't have pain at the instep, but the shoes are definitely stiffer than I thought.

The dune ptb is damn good. I got that and liked it so much I got the crimson immediately after. Both pairs were the same - the stiffness killed me for 1 full day until they "popped" and became great. I sort of attribute this to the cxl. Based on my experience with the grain ottawa there's no way I'd get the bluchers in any of the calfskin offerings, don't think I could take it.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
