Happy Friday gents. I usually don't wear boots in the summer and 95% of my GS ae boots. This however was my first pair from GS PTB in Dune. The sole is finally starting to flex.

Looking for some info on the lug soles on the Brass Boots. For those that have both, are the lug soles about the same weight, flexibility and stiffness as the micro stud soles?

Thinking about a pair of Brass Boots but not sure if i will like the lug sole. I have previously sold all of my micro stud soled boots, as i dont care for them. Am i going to be in the same situation with the lug sole?

Would like to hear peoples experience on the two sole types.

Thank you!

Lug soles on Brass boots are fairly typical 'commando' sole and they behave quite differently from 'micro stud' aka dainite. Admittedly, I am not crazy about GS interpretation of micro-stud soles - when new, they tend to create a serious 'ground slap' although they quite improve after a lot of wear when they start to round side-to-side a bit, but they still hit the ground rather hard with a heel. I have no such issues with Parkhurt's new micro stud soles - they seems to be tiny bit softer, and somehow they land on the pavement with grace and quiet.

Mini-lug/commando sole is probably my favorite from GS lineup. They have slightly rounded bottom from the get-go and were very slightly softer under foot. Heel toplift is thicker, meaning less frequent replacements. Sadly, that pair of Ottawas were not proper size for me and got resold. Ah, and hopefully you do not mind pulling stuck gravel from the mini-lugs, that will happen quite often.

Thank you very much! I was hoping there would be a difference in the two soles. I appreciate you taking time to provide me your thoughts on it!

hello fellas,

How is Your experience with Leo and Floyd, especially considering horizontal width of toe box (not ball area).
(see blue marking in foto below)

Yes, the Floyd is taller and thus creates additional space as the upper sort of „gives in„ more to the sides at the preassure points horizontally compared to Leo. But is the toe box less tapered then Floyd vs Leo In same size?

Is the Floyd insole in the toe area wider than the insole of Leo?

Foot:
Brannock: almost 8US E. wide forefoot but low to normal volume. normal heel. duck feet essentially 😆

On the Leo 7.5 E I needed abot 5 mm additional toe width so I finally settled on a longwing in 7EEE with a 2 mm thick insole for the lacing to work properly. Length wise I have about 1.2 inch in front of the toes which I consider perfect.

But I have No idea how this translates to Floyd.

So if Floyd and it’s insole (base) is that much wider in the toe box compared to Leo at same size. May be I should go for 7.5E?
not sure if I can handle the sheer volume of Floyd in 7eee

It's always boot season, my friend :)
Boot season 366 days this year. Been wearing my Grant Stones hard throughout the last 8 months 😀
Indeed my friends, but the last year and a half have been... challenging...

Hoping for a relative normalcy soon and with it more opportunities for boots :)
