Graduation attire

I'm going to be graduating on May 11th from college.

Donning the usual black cap and gown, I was thinking of wearing a white shirt and red tie along with my dark gray Boss trousers. After commencement I could just slap on the jacket and get ready to party. :>

Is the white shirt and red tie too political candidate? At least it's a dark gray suit and not navy. :>

Yea, the outfit is a little dry. Anytime a plain white shirt is paired with suit, it almost always sucks all the stlyle and flair out of the suit. If you still want to go with white, then make sure it has some color pattern woven in.

I would disagree with Mike C. on this one. If the white shirt of high quality (at least 2-ply, real mother of pearl buttons, etc...) and fits well (at least 1/2 inch of cuff showing when a jacket is worn, hits right at the shoulder, is not too baggy in the body, the collar compliments the face), and the suit is slim and tapered, the white shirt and charcoal suit can look very good, sort of a European prince on vacation. Of course, you have to use your judgement on whether your physique and looks are more suggestive of European aristocracy or American office worker. I would caution against the plain red tie though.

It's a Boss shirt, french cuffs, cotton but it is textured, with awesome buttons. I noticed the shirt because of the buttons, I don't know if they are mother of pearl but they are not plastic. The buttons are the kind that don't show the stitching on the outward face. What color tie would you suggest?
