I want to buy some gourmet sweets for someone's birthday, but I'm not really sure where to look other than See's (and I want to see if I can do better than that).

Suggestions? I was hoping to get this online and just have it shipped to them (where I am isn't a mecca of retail).

Michel Cluizel has a shop in NYC and does mail orders. Chocolate Springs in the Berkshires would be another good pick.

On a related note I can't seem to find fruit pectin/pastilles online.....the kind I can find so easily in Paris and, curiously enough, the SXM airport. Any ideas?

Seroogy's in Wisconsin. www.seroogys.com Frans in Seattle. Both make killer carmels. I think Fran started the whole salted carmel craze.
Seroogy's is much cheaper, similar quality, 9/10. Frans, 10/10. That is if chocolate is what you want...

These ladies do brilliant work. Unknown to the rest of the world at this point, they work out of a tiny shop north of me in Minnesota.

Worth a look.

I love the idea of gourmet chocolates but most shops charge an arm and a leg to shop. They estimate shipping at 4.99 which I find hard to believe. That means they must just ship in a Priority Mail box with no sort of insulation or cold packs. I wonder if it'd survive the trip to CA.

Godiva has a solid webshop, not "gourmet" but it does the job
