Gothy teen trying to have a more mature and casual appearance - Any ideas that could help?

Is gothy edgy style better than classier dressier style?

I know a lot of the edgier kids are dealing with this rn so I hope that this can properly fall under some form of discussion

I was a stereotypical goth kid. I grew my hair out long, wore all black, and got all angsty. Though at that time I had no idea that it was just a phase and I'd grow out of it...which is what happened. I took the quite liberating experience of quitting long hair and going clean-cut (no regrets at all) and now I really want to change my style. I usually go for a black thin sweater shirt and slim fits with some decent shoes and or boots but I'm 17 (3 months from 18) and bored of that and I'm not really sure how to start with going for a more adult casual/dressy casual/classy style.

You could do a lot of stuff likely, but hard to give advice without some more information.
Whats your build? How much do you want to spend? What kind of look are you going for?

I lost a lot of weight (200 lbs to 150 lbs) and I'm working out more now, but other then that average build but not really fit. 5'7 with short wavy/curly hair. I don't want to spend too much but I'm not afraid of spending a bit on an outfit as a whole. I kind of want a more classy/dressy casual look. Idk how to put it, like maybe just a bit preppy in some ways? I don't want to be super colorful but I'm so sick of all black and edgy stuff. I just don't know entirely what to go for

Here's your transitioning kit.

Dark jeans and dark khakis. Both go with everything. Shirts: some cotton button downs, plain. Really, plain. Then get an unstructured jacket, Sonoma, Apt. 9, Kohl-ish stuff. (Jacket means blazer, sport coat, etc.) Wear it a lot, unbuttoned, you'll miss the pockets when you take it off. 300 bucks or less buys you all that stuff new. Sixty at a thrift. Consider Chucks for your feets. Timeless. Congrats on becoming a grown guy (in three months, right?)
