Tell me if I am right or wrong.
The 'family' went to see the Rockettes Christmas show Sat.
They would have gotten me a ticket in advance, but I was not
sure if I could make it because I thought I was having surgery.

Good thing (in my mind) that happened (I didn't have surgery, but
they didn't get me a ticket).

They did say they would get me a ticket, and don't worry about
the trouble or the expense, its no problem.

So, its not a lot (I think) to my (new) wife's dad (step dad actually but
dad really). Long story.

So, he drops like $1000 to take 'the tribe' to see the rockettes.....

I'm certainly not going to run up his bill. So of course I say no I want
to stay home. It's actually true. I'd rather sit and do nothing than
have spent $200 on a ticket.

This will be a future issue here. I'm not sure what to do.

What he considers incidentals is actually more than my operating budget.

And he's generous about it, but I just don't feel right taking something like that.

I honestly dont know how to respond/what to do/etc

but i am so so so thankful to not be in NY for the week.

I actually really, really like my new inlaws. It's just the disparity of
incomes makes me only want to stay 1-2 days max.

First, stop using the newline key so often. It's hard to read your thoughts. Second, don't worry about income disparity. You say you like your in laws, so they are probably good people, and they won't worry too much about it. Why should you?

Third, to the OP's question, I just saw Imogen Heap in concert. It was great. I wasn't sure what to expect from a live show, but it was a great representation of her album. Also, I just saw Dreamgirls on opening day in Detroit, which I must say, was just like going to a concert with the way the sell out crowd reacted to every scene/song/number/etc.

Ah, Muse. I'll be seeing their first show in Melbourne at the end of January. Friend of mine set out at the crack of dawn to buy our tickets on the day - lucky she did, they'd sold out in about ten minutes.

anybody have any good online resources for keeping track of concerts? there are a handful of artists I like, and I am sure that any of them that are performing live come to my town at one point. any good way of keeping track of them?

Condor - choose what you want to take and what you dont' want to take from your in-laws well. personally, going with a group to a show I would take, espectially because it will make them happy. the occasional nice gift (birthday pen, wedding watch) anything else feel totally free to tell them that you would prefer not to accept. I would also try to involve the missus in the discussion. good luck, I have in-laws that I hate with a passion, who believe that the have alot more money than I do (they did, and blew it away on frivolous ****) and who are always trying to buy me stupid tacky ****, but wouldn't help us when I needed it.

I plan on seeing any of the great funk acts if they ever come to Texas: Earth, Wind & Fire, George Clinton, Larry Graham.

Hey globe, http://pollstar.com/ is pretty reliable.

I'm excited for the Thermals headlining show in March, possibly the Lifetime/World Inferno Friendship Society gig, maybe the Lemonheads again. Are Deerhoof and Xiu Xiu really worth seeing live? Will I be bored? It was a very busy late summer/fall for concerts so this respite is welcome.

I'm going to try and get to an Art Garfunkel show in the area, Jan. 14th or so. I saw him with Simon and those two are great.

I'm DYING to see the Chieftains, but I'll be at university when they pass through the area. Might have to arrange a special trip home...?
