Gores separating from shoe

I'm on my second pair of AE loafers this week from STP, and both have the issue of one of the elastic gores coming unstitched and separating from the shoe. Both pairs seemed to have the problem out of the box....It's just the first couple stitches so far, but it seems like it's gotten worse after wearing them around for an hour or two. Am I assuming this is not normal, but I haven't had shoes with gores before, so I'm wondering if this is something to expect with gores? I'm disinclined to try pair #3, since it seems like there may be a good chance of getting another defective shoe, but I want to make sure this can be called a defect before returning them.

Thanks!

I presume it is that style of loafer where the elastic holds the two quarters (side pieces) in place
while a big sweeping vamp (forepart) covers the whole thing (not English side elastics).

No, the elastic should not come undone. (After many years of wear it might have lost its elasticity and
would need replacing.) Get in touch with AE customer service, they should repair it without charge.

Alternatively, a repair shop might place one or two hand stitches to secure it all.
