* Before Google Instant, the typical searcher took more than 9 seconds to enter a search term, and we saw many examples of searches that took 30-90 seconds to type.
* Using Google Instant can save 2-5 seconds per search.
* If everyone uses Google Instant globally, we estimate this will save more than 3.5 billion seconds a day. That's 11 hours saved every second.
* 15 new technologies contribute to Google Instant functionality.
I had no idea.

- There is a lag in typing in it right now, which slows things down for me
- The flashing and screen changing at the bottom is a distraction and slows down my typing at the beginning, when it is certain that I need additional characters to get me to my answer

I wonder if the "before/after" times are theoretical or if they have actual tested it?

Pretty cool, but overall not a massive productivity improver. More like a "pretty cool trick" that's better to have than not to have.

^^ It's only available in select countries for the moment. US, UK, France, and a couple others iirc.

Internet-savvy people aren't going to get much out of this but I can see the everyman benefitting, especially if he's of a certain age.

have to be logged into your google account i think.

this is google's death nail.

search results will be even more unreliable. search for "dr." (doctor) and the entire page comes up as Dr. Oz, including news.

I think you mean death knell.

And I'd love to know compared to whose search Google is unreliable. Yahoo? Bing? lol

Hm yes, I think you should bet a large sum of money against google's future success on the stock market.

there will be a lot of money made in short term, then all gone! next facebook will get into the search game...then their IPO...then everyone will be rich....then everyone's poor again.
