Can anyone offer any recommendations for a good, quality tailor that does alterations somewhere in the Boston area? Also west of Boston would work.

Thanks!

Rizzo's in Harvard Square is a big favorite on this board. Having had work done there, I can see why. He's right around the corner from the Brattle Theater.

+1 on Rizzo's. He's very talented and straight shooter.

be forewarned, though, that he is a proper tailor, and charges like it too. This ain't the lady with the sewing machine in the back of the Dry Cleaner's.

mega dittos for Joe at Rizzos

If you need downtown tailor, you might try Vinnie's. I've used him for several pieces, including getting working button holes and shoulder alterations. He's good, but whenever I look at the button holes I always think they don't hold a candle to Joe's which are pure artistry as far as buttonholes go.

I need a couple of pants that need to be hemmed, and about 5-6 shirts that need to be adjusted. I know people Joe @ Rizzos. What am I expected to pay for a shirt alteration and hemming of pants?

Also - Benny's in Brookline seems to be getting good reviews.

Thanks

I just dropped off some things at Mario the Taylor in Chestnut Hill - 614 Hammond Street. I haven't gotten them back yet, but it seemed to be a quality operation and they knew what they were talking about.

I would definitely recommend Jacks Tailoring on Mass Avenue. Prices are fair and he does a great job on everything from suits to jeans. I have always been satisfied and Jack is a really nice guy as well.

FYI I just called Rizzo's and they apparently don't do shirt alterations.

I used to get pants hemmed and waists narrowed by a woman who worked from her home. Less than $10 a job. Border of Newton and Waltham. PM me if you want her #.

Wow Benny Ho is still around? He's good but on the pricey side. He used to work at Louis if that means anything to anyone.

Did you get your stuff back? I still need to do some shirt alterations (slimming and shortening the sleeves) was wondering what kind of work you got done there and if you were happy.

Thanks.

$35 for sleeve shortening; as for the jacket, can be around there but I think it depends more on what needs to be done.
