Ha, you're definitely right. I think originally, the gin fizz was shaken for 12 minutes.

One more to consider - Singapore sling.

I like a Tom Collins at any time of day.

Recently I've gotten lazy and taken to making some sort of variation with gin, Pellegrino Limonata or Aranciata and some crushed ice with maybe a lime wedge.

Also, it isn't even really a cocktail since it's close to non-alcoholic but I like a shandy every so often. beer and sprite ("lemonade" for my girlfriend's south african family - I believe it's an English thing)

It's a variation on the Southside (mentioned above by WYL), which is also a great cocktail, but using rum instead of gin. Was invented at the Maidstone Club in East Hampton and that's the only place I've had a really good one.

Here are some explanations and recipe - it's fantastic stuff

Bellini is a good brunch suggestion. Otherwise, I love southsides for afternoon boozin'.

The Ditty:
1.5 oz Mt. Gay Rum
1.5 oz Fever Tree ginger ale
0.5 oz lemon juice
0.5 oz simple syrup
2 or 3 basil leaves muddled
Stirred and served over ice

In my experience, nothing comes closer to heaven.
