I plan a trip to Prague this coming october and was wondering if there are any good shoe-makers in this city...............Was thinking that maybe some sort of austro-hungarian equivalent maker could be found, but no search-engine was able to locate any.
I would appreciate your help, many thanks........

Make a side trip to Budapest and go see Marcell Mrsan at Koronya. I picked up my new bespoke wholecuts (pictured on his blog) today and I am extemely pleased. I will write more about the process (ordered through Rosenbaum's in Brooklyn) shortly. As Fabro stated earlier, Marcell is the real deal and he can make anything you want.

thank you, but I will only be going to Prague with the missus and the daughter, so I just thought that I could escape for a few hours to visit some Czech shoe-maker if there is any left in Prague.
When I urge for some Vass or Koronya's I plan a trip to Budapest. And yes it is pretty easy for me to travel in Europe as I am based in Geneva.

I visited Lawart last week while I was in Prague.

He works in a flat in the city so you might have difficulty finding it thinking it's a retail store (it's right beside the laundromat).

He was actually with a customer getting his feet measured in the way of a sock that freezes - a process that I'm not familiar with as I thought most bespoke shoes literally measure your feet with a tape measure.

(You guys are going to have to excuse me for the technical terms as Mr. Lawart was trying to explain the same to me in English which is not his native tongue.)

A pair costs 50,000 CZK which translates to about $2200 USD a pair. He will actually make & mail you a tester pair just for wearing around the house for 7 days before making you the actual pair. The whole process from the beginning to end takes about 5 months.

He buys from mostly German and French tanneries and he does not work with Cordovan due to it being very stiff. He was showing me this baby calf leather (forgot the name now) that has rather subtle & unique lines/texture.

He has an apprentice that works for him and claims to make only 2 pairs a month. He gets a lot of customers from Germany as most bespoke shoemakers there charges a bit more at 70,000 CZK a pair.

All in all, a very interesting place to visit and I told him I will be back once I'm ready for a pair.
