It appears this thread is becoming more productive without me and my picnic attacks.
Everything is on hold for me as I have to resolve this wife vs my mother issue.
All options are open and are considering relocating to a different state! Boston, Atlanta, San Fran, LA.

I'm considering a dinner jacket for a more formal evening look but when you need to throw it down then you need something more casual.

Black velvet with peak lapels! Like the one below which no longer fits me

So the solution is to get another in my current size then :D

I think Greg's talking more about the way the coat fits than the pants. The open fronts emphasize any hippiness you might have, and he likes the way it looks on people with slimmer hips.

I want one now too and it is definitely better than the charcoal. Fabric source/options? Anyone?

I still maintain that evening jackets are the most underdeveloped interest on the forum, and I hope at some point everyone will appreciate how awesome they can be.

Thanks Unbel and I agree, evening wear is overlooked and it's probably a context that mandates dressing up.

I think even wearing evening-ish stuff in a context that doesn't demand dressing up. Like going to a bar to meet StyFo dudes. Wearing a velvet coat is cool for that situation IMHO.

    That's sick.
No, just them not getting along. Their cease fire doesn't last more than a month.

My wife and my mother get along ridiculously well. It's amazing. Mrs. C loves spending time with my mom*; none of her Korean friends can believe it--Korean mother in laws are notoriously harsh with their son's wives. There is a (sadly) true story of a women going in for her first round of chemo for breast cancer, calling her mother-in-law to inform her of this, and the mother-in-law replying "well, who is going to be making my son's meals then?"

@mdancel , check out Luxire. In general, they seem to have the best hit-to-miss ratio 'round these parts, and there is a thriving thread wherein you can get any help with them you need.

To be fair, my parents are about as awesome as can be. Growing up, but especially in high school and college, the friends of both my sister and me loved interacting with them. Really. They are really fucking good at life.

Yep, midnight blue, peak lapels, with a bit of shine to it. Just what I had in mind. Velvet or a silk blend will work perfectly for this. I'd get this over a charcoal jacket, Kulata. Suitsupply usually has something like this around the holiday season, for if you don't want to splurge.

Looked black in the dingy back room of that bar.

Great success on my part for bringing this up!

I think its more because most people have even less use for them than they do the fancy clothes they buy for day wear.

I'll make one so I can specify stuff. I tried SuSu tux which i think those jackets are based off and the US44 was too tight in the chest and US46 was way too long all over.
