Why would you like non-CBD tie options to go with a CBD suit out of curiosity?

Fair question. Picked up the suit some years ago because the measurements seemed spot on and the price was very attractive. This was before I had a fully formed notion of what constituted cbd, which, I'll allow, I may still not. Turns out the fit is spot on (my tailor remarked the suit appeared to be made for me), though I am not, nor have I ever been in a cbd environment. I figured since the suit is a fairly heavy flannel in a dark grey with medium brown chalk stripes that impart an overall brownish cast (as opposed to, say, a charcoal or navy worsted w/ pinstripes) I could get away with funking it up a bit. Am I wrong? Can I break some "rules" here? I suppose I'm not completely averse to the notion of cbd, but I kind of want to avoid the type of small pattern silk neat pictured here. Basically I'm looking for something with a bit of texture and a pop of color, though am open to all tasty/tasteful suggestions.

What about something rust-y like this Drake's donegal from NMWA: http://www.nomanwalksalone.com/inde...rolled-rust-donegal-herringbone-silk-tie.html

    Then what would you suggest?

Stitchy may be on to something w/large scale patterns, though I'm looking for actual examples and color ways.

What's wrong with going full out cbd from time to time?

    Nothing.

    ---

AJL, I think you should try and find some large print neats/medallions, and post links here, as well as a closer up pic of the suit so we can see the fabric, and then I would feel better suited to make suggestions.

Lots of the new wool striped ties from NMWA would work. And how about this?

Not feeling that one, Mr Six. I suppose it might work, but I doubt it would be stellar.

How about a wide-stripe rep? Or one of those repeating diamond patterns that are so abhorred on this forum but can work well as part of a conservative CBD look?

    Or just a grenadine...

Chocolate brown wool or cashmere ties, possibly with a stripe or larger medallions, but the texture alone should be enough. Make sure your shirts have some texture as well, such as end on end or a dressier chambray.
