Claghorn, your wife is awesome. I was told to stop buying navy suits when she saw just 5 navy suits in my closet. And I only have 5 suits. Lol
Looks like my next suit has to be from B&Tailors since April is approaching fast.

After talking about navy velvet jackets, what do you guys think about this jacket? I think it might not be versatile enough with the silk lapels, making it appropriate for black tie events only. Maybe I'll have Luxire make one with self facing shawl lapels if I can find some tartan cloth on the cheap, which would be more of a smoking than a dinner jacket.

I dunno, it's definetely "there," just "there" is on a balding fifty-something at a country club in 1956. I say that with great affection, of course.

It would be more versatile with self lapels, but I'm still not sure how or where you'd wear it. The satin lapel limits it to the evening, for me, though probably not black tie. Honestly it would be better with open-collar white shirt and jeans (unless you have a time machine). How would you feel about peak lapels, instead of shawl, Monkeyface? Maybe hacking pockets, too (a well-matched angled pocket on a tartan jacket is a thing of beauty). For me, that would be as fun, but a lot easier to actually wear.

It's not at all versatile, but it's great for winter black tie.

    +1

Save B&Tailor for something Greg isn't carrying with Formosa. Perhaps your first odd jacket? A navy blazer? :stirpot:

Yeah, country club kind of describes it, except not balding and fifty-something, and it's in the city. I spend many a rainy Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evening in hotel bars, members clubs and cocktail bars. London is perhaps one of the few cities where such a jacket wouldn't be out of place. Jeans aren't even allowed in some places, not that I was planning on wearing it like that.

I was thinking of getting it with some drape, and perhaps completely unlined, sleeves included, so that it'll be very comfortable to wear. When it comes to the fabric, a tartan appeals to me as a sort of reminder of my time in Scotland, but a navy or midnight blue might be more versatile. I do like the idea of wide shawl lapels (shaped like TF lapels) and jetted pockets. It would be the perfect bar jacket, not as formal as a dinner jacket, not as standard as a navy blazer, and not as informal as a cardigan or jumper.

Anyway, this is just an idea, as I'm in the process of making a list of things to buy over the next couple of years. Communists aren't the only ones with 5 year plans.

Because you said you wanted a suit from B&T. The Formosa sharkskin from NMWA is the exact shade I would go with, but I thought you wanted the bespoke "experience". If not, get the Formosa!

I think it makes sense to everyone to get from B&Tailor something that I cannot get from Formosa.
The sharkskin would be nice but it would make more sense to just get it from NMWA.
I am so done with navy colours.

That looks like a light grey. Must be the lighting.

    I want a pow suit in non-flannel.

It's on the lighter side of mid grey.

Get a PoW from B&T then. Better yet, make it a three piece!
