I really enjoy different beers for different seasons. Right now, the weather and mood is perfect for ale. I'm gonna try Marston's Pedigree if I come by it. We have some pubs that carry a whole lot of different great beers from GB.

Since we're discussing beers, for those in the NW (and possibly CA) who like hops but are put off by insanely over-hopped beers masquerading as PA/IPAs, Deschutes Brewery makes a panoply of delicious sessionable PAs and IPAs. Their Cascade Ale may just be my favorite beer of all time in terms of malt/hop balance. Mirror Pond and Black Butte Porter are solid, and widely available, but it's the local/smaller-batch stuff that really kills.

@Cleav lives in the midlands, which means he knows his beer, or more specifically, his ales.

My time in the US has undone the drinking prowess a life in bars from 15 provided, so it's Hoegaarden for me these days. Im confident that one pub crawl from my college days would kill me now.

Ah ha! I knew someone was gonna mention ho-garden. It seems like it isnt big in the States but it is huge in my motherland. When I did drink, I drank Stella, Sierra Nevada pale ale, Heineken, Fat Tire, Shock Top, etc. There is a place called Founding Farmers and they serve some local white beer and it is darn good. Nowadays, it is just Dr.Pepper or Coke for me.

Everytime someone says 'Deschutes', my instinctual reaction is to say 'bless you'.

Aside from that, I had a bunch of their stuff when I was in Oregon. I really liked the beers you mentioned. I'm going through some ballast point sculpin IPA right now. Check out the beer thread if you guys want to find more unique beers. Some cool posts on there.

Very kind mate though I may change that to knowing the ales I like. Just back from a break in the south west where the ales are quite different. Also Erik's right in that some days a Peroni hits the spot others a real ale, cider on the rocks, an Irish Guinness... :slayer:

Please take it easy on the soft drinks - they're not very good for you.

You'd be better off having a beer every now and then.

Stella, known as 'wife beater' in some parts of the UK

I enjoy a drink now and again (!) and do not have any feelings either way to others who do or don't.

With that proviso, I always liked the Dean Martin quote

"I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day"

There are substances that feel far better than alcohol.

(Not that I know anything about any of them...)

Yeah. You said you're not a beer drinker, so what do you prefer?

IPA and beer lovers should read Brewing Up A Business. About the founder of Dogfishhead.

I love me some Dogfishhead. I also really enjoy Dales Pale Ale in a can.

Had some at a bar the other night and was shocked that Dales was 7 bucks a draft. It's so good though!

    Usually bourbon, sometimes vodka.

I also enjoy it, the Stella. She got her groove back, ya know.
