Also, perhaps lighter shoes and belt e.g. tan. If everything is consistently summery and light, along with the shirt, the charcoal suit can look fine as a neutral canvas.

Another good option is plain navy grenadine or knit. I'd even play with a heavily textured dark grey or charcoal tie.

@mimo Thanks for the suggestion. I usually wear it with tan shoes/belt and a lighter grey suit and it works great. I have a pink tie, but it doesn't work for me; my darker features create too much of a contrast. I like thinking on a rusty colour, I may try a few out.

@kulata I was thinking playing with a charcoal grey might be a good option. I've have a navy grenadine as well and it, like the one posted, is O.K. but not stellar.

@EliodA I'm inclined to agree with you. I was hoping to have something a bit more for work but it's not looking ideal.

Overall though it looks like this may never be an ideal scenario given the color of the suit. I've just been incredibly stubborn in my desire to make it work. [IMG]

    Thanks guys!

The one you posted isn't plain, that's why it doesn't look as good. Digging into my tumblr to show you examples

Example. Navy or charcoal tie. I can't tell

@kulata Thanks a lot for the examples.

I do have a plain one that I was a little underwhelmed by, but I think you're right. This one in the pic I posted comes across as too busy. Better to keep it more simple on that front and choose a better pocket square. I shall return with results!

The Vanda donegals look a lot softer in the pics to me, they look like tie fabric donegal, not pant fabric donegal made into a tie. Hard to judge these things from stock pics, if Clags vouches for the KW, Im sure its awesome.

I think I only have 1 donegal tie, from YHNT, I like it a lot.

From what I know, Vanda uses Molloy & Sons donegal fabric, they specifically weave the fabric at a good weight for ties, their standard fabric is a heavier weight more suited to tailored clothing.

I was sent this fabric a couple of days ago by a supplier. I'm going to have it made up into a few ties.

    Hober restocked the stripe tie!
    I like it.
But ordering that and a midnight navy blue solid grenadine is unnecessary? What other solid color should I get?

When did necessary start being a factor?

You should have variations of solid navy, brown, burgundy, green, and black. Maybe also gray.

I'd go for a nice burgundy or a forest green...nice colors for the fall too...

I plan on having both. [IMG]
I've got bitter chocolate, burgundy, forest green, midnight navy blue and charcoal silver and find them versatile and useful across a wide range of jackets.

I just received my latest yesterday. For the last four years my wife and kid (now kids) have given me a tie and square as part of my birthday. Vanda is Friggin' awesome.
