You assume people are reading his long posts and that minority here have advanced degrees. Anybody that is aware can figure out the intention of this thread and general style cues of the forum. Bottom line is, he comes across as a troll and if he's not then he should go into read only mode till he figures out the basics.

Emphatic yes to above. I picture this chap flipping through the thesaurus as he types, looking for obscure words to dazzle us with (and likely attempting to obscure the fact he knows less about clothing than he'd like us to believe). Troll? I don't think so. Just young, cocky and a bit full of himself. He's not here to learn, but to preach the gospel as he sees it; he comes to us fully formed with all the answers.

It rarely turns out well when someone comes barging in the door, blabbering away, without first taking the time to acquaint himself with the values and dynamic of the community he's descended upon. I believe this time is no exception (still time for reformation, but I had a bad feeling from the start, as I intimated in an IM exchange with Noodles).

My guess is he is a young college kid full of bluster. We all (most?) were. The SAT is probably fresh enough in his mind that he doesn't need a thesaurus.

De facto is much more common in English as an adjective than an adverb as Kira used it. There's pretty much always a better adverb than de facto. In Kira's case, "in reality" is much clearer and unobtrusive.

Honestly, I have a composition book that is dedicated to unknown words that I come across in articles and television; and I memorize them. I'm almost out of pages. I believe it's good to have one (as I'm living the world of academia).

As I mentioned before, I'm a novice in the formalities in classic menswear; and I bookmarked many threads here.

Regarding being preachy, that is not my intention. It may appear so, but that was not was I was trying to do. I just want to learn and execute what I've read on here; and internally become confident in it (which I do when I wear my outfits).

My apologies to all I've antagonized.

    Cheers,

    D.W.

Better. Less talking and more listening for you, grasshopper. There is much to take in, and some very knowledgable folks here to help guide you. Take advantage of their knowledge and experience.

Perhaps there is hope yet for you.

This thread works like basic boot camp. If you are here for help because you are learning, assume you know nothing while here. Allow this thread to break you down from you bad habits, and it will build you up ten fold. Also, don't talk back to your sergeants... :)

Whatever I thought I knew was thrown into garbage bin. I got broken into many times. But I dont give a darn as long as I am headed in the right direction.

Shit like this makes me happy to be people. Reaffirms that antagonism is normally a reaction to a mistake and then escalates from there.

Kira and I PMed a few times before his moat recent post (which was made unprompted) and he was much more reasonable/normal in private. I suspect you subtract the defensiveness and the callow need to impress, you've got a normal late-teen/early twenty-something just wanting to look better.

He was taken aback that we thought he was trolling us and I suspect that caused him to reevaluate how he came off.

Anyway, I encouraged him to stick around and I hope he does.

He's a college kid, has a limited budget, and really likes double breasted jackets.

    Kira, what's your size?

I appreciate the kind words folks.

@Claghorn , that's pretty much it. I'm a 38R by nature, but I've purchased jackets in 40R and they fit me well. For example, I saw a vintage Dior jacket that was 40R, but fitted me perfectly.

In all seriousness, I do have a crappy camera phone. I can't promise that I'll post pictures of my outfits (as I don't like taking pictures), but I'll leave the option open.

I was responding more to TM79. I like the expressions de facto and de jure.

I'm also a bit embarrassed to admit that I haven't read Kira's post, only the responses to it.

Yes. I am buying him a jacket. I'm buying everyone jackets. Murl, what's your size?

Sweet. After this vacation, probably jumping from a 40/42 to a 44!
