I certainly do not have broad shoulders. I think my shoulders are more on the average side or slight below avg.

Well, thanks Clags for raising this here.

Not sure as to how to proceed really, particularly as legal action has been muted as a result of this open letter (see below) previously posted on the PC AV thread

    Spoilered for obvious reasons

    Gianni Cerutti,

    c/o Passagio Cravatte,

It is with some regret that I have to take this course of action, though you have been forewarned and chosen to stop communicating with me.

I have detailed my considerable concerns and outlined a solution yet you elect not to respond. I have offered professional assistance to you in regard to any issues you have and you have chosen not to engage with me.

The correspondence I have sent shall, for the mean time, remain between you and I. Suffice to say though that I seek recompense for having purchased three 'vintage' ties which are plainly not vintage. In addition the third tie falls far below any reasonable standard one might expect.

In short the tie pictured below -

    Is not vintage

    it is poorly constructed.

It has a pull (mis-print) across the the front blade which falls just below the knot when tied.

All of this astounds me particularly when you cited the reason for its late (!) delivery being that you had to personally check it to ensure the highest quality! Did you check it? I am left wondering why you sent the 'complimentary' pocket square?

In my private correspondence I have mapped out the way forward. You should respond quickly, privately or otherwise, as you know matters are already with my advisers.

In conclusion, throughout all of this, you have misled me.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Cleav

Didn't he then threaten legal action?

That is the inference taken from "I have informed my lawyers".

I blocked Gianni a long time ago because I was sick of reading the same regurgitated rubbish (compliments)so I haven't kept up to date with the drama but simply based on the above that is pretty poor form for an AV. Wow. I hope it works out for you Cleav.

I disagree with that reasoning due to the fact that roping is very common and won't raise any eyebrow and the same thing can be said for spalla camicia and other shoulder treatments. Some of these things are best not over thought..

Wear what brings the best out of your physique and doesn't make you look like a clown. My humble opinion. #YOLO

I'm curious as to what constitutes "vintage" in a tie, more specifically what aspects gianni claims to be vintage, vs cleav's experience in this case. God knows I'm sick of hearing gianni toss out the word vintage in nearly all of his mangled descriptions of his ties.

Not sure if I'd refer to it as affected, perhaps more like "intentionally tailored" in a way that might call slightly more attention to itself than a natural shoulder. Probably depends on the degree of roping, as well to one's particular business and cultural environment as to what is considered acceptable or unremarkable.

If Rudals can wear a DB suit to work, roped shoulders shouldn't be a problem at all.

Maybe he "can't" but doesn't know it, and as such is out of the running for that big promotion. :butbut:

Not that you didn't spend much money on these ties, but they may not have cost you enough to justify the amount of time and energy it would take to receive proper compensation.

I think the best course of action is for people who have bad experiences to continue to x-post and make sure SF members are well aware of what they may be getting themselves into. You may be out the cost of 3 ties, but Gianni could be out the cost of who knows how many more future purchases ...
